Abstract: An electrosurgical medical device can include a first jaw, a second jaw, a heating element, and a heat sink. The heating element can be heated for cutting or sealing tissue. The heat sink and the heating element can move relative to each other. Such relative movement can be between a first state that dissipates heat from the heating element and a second state that allows the heating element to heat. Such relative movement can be actuated during closing of the jaws. For example, a displacement actuator on the first jaw can push the heat sink away from the heating element when the jaws are being closed, thereby moving the heating element and the heat sink from a first (heat sinking) state to a second (non-heat sinking) state. Heat in the heating element can dissipate through the heat sink in the first state for rapid cooling of the heating element.

Abstract: A system for imaging and treating tissue can include or use an imaging sensor adapted to receive imaging information from a location internal to a human or animal subject, a tissue therapy output for applying a tissue therapy to tissue at the location internal to the subject, and controller circuitry, comprising signal-processing circuitry configured for image-processing the imaging information to determine a structure or other characteristic at or near the location internal to the subject, and to tailor a parameter or algorithm, controlling the tissue therapy output, at least in part based on the imaging information.

Abstract: A surgical device may include a housing configured for handling by a user and comprising a plurality of operator interfacing features. The device may also include a patient interfacing tip arranged at, or spaced apart from, a distal end of the housing and controllable by the operator interfacing features. The patient interfacing tip may include a pair of jaws configured to grasp tissue, an electrode on each jaw configured to seal tissue, and an articulating blade configured to cut tissue in a grasp of the pair of jaws. The device may also include an optical element extending from the housing to the patient interfacing tip and configured to emit laser energy to cut tissue, wherein the pair of jaws, electrode, and articulating blade are adapted for coarse cutting of tissue and the optical element is configured for precise cutting of tissue.
