  • Publication number: 20220247199
Abstract: An on-board battery charger (OBC) includes first and second rails which generate first and second detection signals based on voltage events, such as zero-crossing or peak voltage events, of input voltages supplied to the rail circuits. The OBC includes a relay switchable between (i) an opened state in which the relay disconnects the rails whereby the rails can respectively receive first and second phase input voltages from a multi-phase mains supply and (ii) a closed state in which the relay connects the rails whereby the rails can both receive a same input voltage from a single-phase mains supply. A controller determines from a comparison of the detection signals at the same time whether input voltages received by the rails from a mains supply are out-of-phase or in-phase to determine therefrom whether the mains supply is multi-phase or single-phase and/or whether the relay is properly or improperly opened or closed.

  • Patent number: 11120648
Abstract: In at least one embodiment, an apparatus for adaptively performing diagnostics in a vehicle is provided. The apparatus includes at least one microcontroller and a communication controller. The at least one microcontroller is positioned in a vehicle and is configured to provide first information indicative of operating characteristics for at least one switch in the vehicle. The communication controller is configured to receive the first information from the at least one microcontroller and to wirelessly transmit the first information to a remote server. The communication controller is further configured to receive second information related to a remaining useful life (RUL) for the at least one switch from the remote server and to transmit the second information to the at least one microcontroller to determine when the at least one switch will exhibit a failure.

  • Patent number: 10759295
Abstract: A proximity detection circuit suitable for use with an on-board vehicle charger, such as but not limited to the type of chargers used within hybrid and electric vehicles, to facilitate current conservation during period of time when it is unnecessary or otherwise undesirable. The on-board charger can test for connection of a cordset or other electrical connection used to connect the on-board charger to a charging station or other current source. The on-board charger can be used to detect two different cordsets or vehicles using different charging circuitries.

  • Patent number: 10124680
Abstract: An on-board charger for an electric vehicle includes a switch configured to receive an AC voltage, a capacitor connected to the switch and connectable to a traction battery of the electric vehicle, a frequency sensor, and a controller. The frequency sensor is configured to detect during the odd half-cycle of a first cycle of the AC voltage an instantaneous frequency of the AC voltage for the first cycle based on elapsed time between zero-voltage crossings of the odd half-cycle of the first cycle and not based on any other zero-voltage crossings of the AC voltage. The controller is configured to close the switch during the even half-cycle of the first cycle at a first trigger time dependent upon the instantaneous frequency of the AC voltage for the first cycle. The capacitor is enabled to be charged with the AC voltage via the switch while the switch is closed.
