Patent number: 8450606Abstract: A tape can comprise a strip of dielectric material, with adhering patches of electrical conductive material. The patches can be substantially electrically isolated from one another. The strip can be disposed in a communication cable to provide a shield that is electrically discontinuous or has high resistance between opposite cable ends. Each patch can interact with electromagnetic radiation associated with electrical signals transmitting over the cable. The patches can collectively interact with the transmitting electrical signals in a cumulative or resonant manner to produce a spike in return loss at a particular frequency of the transmitting signals. The frequency location of the spike can depend upon the sizes of the patches, with size impacting manufacturability. The patches can be sized such that the spike falls within an operating frequency of the transmitting signal but is suppressed, so the cable meets return loss specifications while offering manufacturing advantage.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2009Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Assignee: Superior Essex Communication LPInventors: Christopher W. McNutt, James S. Tyler, Michael Klepper, Delton C. Smith, Jörg-Hein Walling

Patent number: 7024898Abstract: A process as claimed for the invention for internal high-pressure reshaping of a hollow section (12) in a reshaping tool, a fluid being introduced under high pressure P1 into a hollow section and this section having a transitional area with different wall thicknesses in the area of an edge (18 to 21) to be blocked, is characterized in that the shape selected for the hollow section (12) in the initial state is such that a thickened area (22 to 25) extends a certain distance from the edge (18 to 21) into the wall section (14, 16) with smaller wall thickness. As a result, constrictions can be avoided during reshaping and favorable edge geometries can be achieved (FIG. 2).Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 2000Date of Patent: April 11, 2006Assignees: Audi AG, Alcan Technology & Management AGInventors: Armin Zuber, Alexander Hoffman, Wulf Leitermann, Klaus Koglin, Jorg Hein, Lutz Kampmann

Patent number: 6566607Abstract: A data communication cable includes a cable jacket surrounding a plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors disposed longitudinally over the length of the communication cable and arranged side-by-side to reduce cross-talk between the twisted pairs. The cable also includes a first region having a first thickness disposed between two regions having a second thickness. These regions, or another structure located on the outer surface of the jacket, are arranged to prevent symmetric stacking of several communication cables and thus reduce alien cross-talk arising from outside of the communication cable.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1999Date of Patent: May 20, 2003Assignee: Nordx/CDT, Inc.Inventor: Jörg-Hein Walling

Patent number: 6259256Abstract: A cable testing device apparatus has been developed so as to measure the NEXT and ELFEXT characteristics of a cable containing a plurality of twisted pairs. In particular, the present invention simultaneously provides each twisted pair within the cable with an electrical signal of equal magnitude and measuring the equivalent power sum output for each of the individual twisted pairs within the cable. Thus, a total of 25 measurements for each test are needed, for a total of 50 tests.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1999Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Assignee: Nordx/CDT, Inc.Inventor: Jörg-Hein Walling

Patent number: 5658406Abstract: Method of making a twisted conductor wire unit in which each wire of the pair is individually insulated. The twisted pair is provided with an outer extruded polymeric layer while a vacuum is applied to the pair at the extrusion position. The vacuum draws the polymeric layer down onto the pair and forces the insulated wires together along the length of the unit. The vacuum is insufficient to produce substantial longitudinal indentations in the polymer layer. This avoids spaces being provided between the insulated wires in the finished structure and provides a substantially constant distance between the wires to improve electrical and cross-talk characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1994Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: Nordx/CDT, Inc.Inventors: Jorg-Hein Walling, Gavriel L. Vexler, Clement Gagnon, Benoit Arpin

Patent number: 5073682Abstract: A cable for use as aerial service wire having a core of conductors and a load carrier in the form of a plurality of spaced apart tensile reinforcing members spaced from the core as a group laterally on one side of the core. Part of the jacket surrounds the core and is interconnected to another jacket part surrounding the group of filaments. The jacket part surrounding the filament group has a width greater than its thickness so that it may fit within a wedge clamp for stringing purposes. The two parts of the jacket are capable of being separated between the filament group and the core to allow a wedge clamp to be fitted. For this purpose, the cable may be fitted with a non-adherent tape inside the jacket and between the jacket parts with the jacket parts interconnecting around edges of the tape.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1990Date of Patent: December 17, 1991Assignee: Northern Telecom LimitedInventors: Jorg-Hein Walling, Oleg Axiuk, Robert Dickenson
