    Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for processing mail wherein information located on at least one surface of the mail is detected. Address information determined by means of the information located on the surface of the mail is compared with available address information in a data bank or in a database drawn up therefrom. In querying the data bank or database, the address information thus determined is associated with new address information and the address information established by querying the data bank or database is applied to the mail as new address information.
