  • Patent number: 4181354
Abstract: A resiliently-mounted vehicle seat has a spring unit on the linkage between the seat frame and the underframe. The unit is interposed between the linkage and the seat frame and includes springs which extend between an extension of the linkage and the seat frame. The springs are connected to a bar which engages the extension at an adjustable position along its length to vary the restoring force of the springs on the linkage according to the weight of the occupant.Movement of the bar along the extension is controlled by virtue of a selective gripping action of the bar on the extension so that in the unloaded condition of the seat the bar does not grip the extension. As an additional feature a mechanism is provided for selecting the desired position of the bar on the extension when the seat is occupied, the bar moving when vibrations in the seat unload the unit.

  • Patent number: 4181355
Abstract: A resiliently-mounted vehicle seat is provided with means for adjusting its height. The seat is of the kind having a seat frame supported from an underframe by scissors linkages. A link of each scissor linkage has an extension piece which is engaged by a spring and damping unit. The extension piece is pivotable about a pivot about which the associated link also pivots. The extension piece is releasably securable to the link through an intermediate link. The arrangement affords an adjustment mechanism which gives fine adjustment of the height while not affecting the installation height of the seat.

  • Patent number: 4181353
Abstract: A resiliently-mounted vehicle seat has a resilient damped mounting between the seat frame and an underframe. The mounting seeks to avoid a construction which impedes up and down movement of the seat frame and tilting of a back rest pivotally connected to said seat frame. The seat frame is supported from the underframe by a scissors linkage and the scissors linkage includes an extension of one of the links which projects beyond the pivot for that link and carries a shock absorber. A cam surface is formed by the extension and a spring is carried on a shaft movable over the cam surface. The other end of the shock absorber and of the spring are carried on shafts mounted on an extension of the seat frame or the underframe.A feature of the arrangement is the facility to adjust the spring for different occupants with minimal force.
