Patent number: 5881724Abstract: A method of controlling a respirator for therapeutic treatment of sleep aa includes the step of continuously measuring a) a phase angle of a time difference between respiratory flow and respiratory pressure of a patient and b) a pressure amplitude of the patient. The individual respiratory resistance is determined based on the measured pressure amplitude by oscilloresistometry. The respiratory gas pressure is controlled based on the phase angle, the pressure amplitude, and the respiratory resistance. Significant changes of the phase angle are filtered from the signal of the phase angle. A control signal is produced based on the significant changes for controlling the respiratory gas pressure.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1997Date of Patent: March 16, 1999Assignee: Gottlieb Seinmann Gerate fur Medizin und Arbeitsschutz GmbH + Co.Inventors: Bernd Graetz, Jorg Maurer

Patent number: 5617846Abstract: For controlling a respirator for treatment of sleep apnea, a patient's oscillatory pressure amplitude, which corresponds to a patient's breathing resistance is continuously measured, and the individual breathing resistance value (base value) of a patient's pressure amplitude is determined, by oscilloresistometry (oscillatory resistance measuring=ORM). If deviations from this base value occur, the patient is supplied with respiratory gas under pressure and the gas supply is terminated or minimized as soon as the base value is again reached or almost reached.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1995Date of Patent: April 8, 1997Assignee: Gottlieb Weinmann Gerate fur Medizin und Arbeitsschutz GmbH & Co.Inventors: Bernd Graetz, Jorg Maurer
