  • Patent number: 6737149
Abstract: The present invention relates to a medicinal product with a textile component such as a wound compress having a surface containing a multiplicity of openings arranged in at least two hole patterns. The diameter of one opening of one hole pattern deviates from the diameter of an opening of another hole pattern by about at least a factor of 5. Better wound healing is achieved by adapting the structural and mechanical characteristics of the medicinal product to the characteristics of the target tissue.

  • Publication number: 20040053196
Abstract: An implant (1) to be implanted in bone tissue, e.g. a dental implant or an implant for an orthopedic application, comprises surface regions (4) of a first type which have e.g. osseo-integrative, inflammation-inhibiting, infection-combating and/or growth-promoting properties, and surface regions (8) of a second type which consist of a material being liquefiable by mechanical oscillation. The implant is positioned in an opening of e.g. a jawbone and then mechanical oscillations, e.g. ultrasound is applied to it while it is pressed against the bone. The liquefiable material is such liquefied at least partly and is pressed into unevennesses and pores of the surrounding bone tissue where after resolidification it forms a positive-fit connection between the implant and the bone tissue.

  • Publication number: 20040038178
Abstract: A preparation (10, 11,12,13) to be fixed to a natural tooth part or tooth, in particular for the replacement of a load-bearing tooth part, is for example a filling for a drilled-out tooth (1), a crown, bridge or prosthesis to be placed on a tooth stub, or a tooth pin to be fixed in a tooth root for fastening an artificial tooth, a bridge or a prosthesis. The preparation has surface regions which consist of a material with thermoplastic properties. The preparation (10, 11, 12,13) is designed in a manner such that it has oscillation properties with such low damping losses that for a liquefaction of the material with thermoplastic properties by way of oscillations there are local stress concentrations required, and in a manner such that such stress concentrations only occur in the region of the preparation surface.

  • Publication number: 20040030341
Abstract: In order to form positive connections with human or animal tissue parts, particularly bones, implants (7) are used that at least partially consist of a material that can be liquefied by means of mechanical energy. Particularly suitable materials of this type are thermoplastics (e.g. resorbable thermoplastics) or thixotropic materials. The implants (7) are brought into contact with the tissue part, are subjected to the action of ultrasonic energy and are simultaneously pressed against the tissue part. The liquefiable material then liquefies and is pressed into openings or surface asperities of the tissue part so that, once solidified, it is positively joined thereto. The implantation involves the use of an implantation device comprising a generator (2), an oscillating element and a resonator (6), whereby the generator (2) causes the oscillating element to mechanically oscillate, and the element transmits the oscillations to the resonator (6).

  • Publication number: 20040017922
Abstract: An in-the-ear hearing device comprises an outside body, which is at least in part of textile material (3). The textile material allows to optimally adapt shape and shape dynamics as well as biocompatibility to the respective characteristics of an individual ear canal.

  • Publication number: 20030057590
Abstract: An extended component made of fibre-reinforced thermoplastic materials, in particular a screw (1) that contains a corresponding proportion of fibres. Carbon fibres shaped as endles fibres extend in an at least approximately parallel direction to the centre line of the screw (1) in the area of the head (2) of the adjacent thread turns of the shaft (5). At the surface of the remaining part of the threaded portion, the fibre follow the contour of the thread in the axial direction of the part. The fibres in the core of this section next to the end of the screw are distrubuted in an increasingly random manner towards the free end of the screw.

  • Publication number: 20020083951
Abstract: An implantable identification marker comprises an electronic device (4) enclosed within a vial (1; 2) isolating the device (4) from body fluids of the animal after insertion of the marker into the body of an animal. The marker further comprises a fixation structure (8; 5) providing a significantly in-creased total surface of the marker and/or a reduced specific weight of the marker. This improves the integration of the marker into the surrounding tissue avoiding migration within the animal.

  • Patent number: 5870498
Abstract: Image data representing successive original images is prepared for transmission by comparing the characteristics of an image data portion associated with each image region of each original image with the characteristic of the image data portion of the same image region of the immediately preceding original image to produce an indication of any difference between the image portions with respect to the characteristic, each differences indication is compared with a threshold value representing a selected difference indication, and, based on each difference indication which exceeds the threshold value, an operation is performed, which involves preparing transformation-coded data or determining a motion vector. The Threshold value from one original image to the next is changed so that the threshold value has a low value for a first group of original images and a high value for a second group of original images, where the original images of the first group alternate with the original images of the second group.

  • Patent number: 5638073
Abstract: A method is provided for linearizing variations in a transfer characteristic of a digital-to-analog (D/A) converter to which a digitized input signal is fed for being converted to an analog output signal. The method includes balancing the D/A converter so that essentially only negative differential variations result in the transfer characteristic at identified locations; determining amplitudes of the negative differential variations; and adding, with an inverse operational sign, the respective amplitudes of the negative differential variations to the input signal of the D/A converter at the respective locations of the variations.
