    Abstract: A method and a device for charging and discharging a piezoelectric element are described. The charging current charging the piezoelectric element and the discharging current discharging the piezoelectric element, respectively, are conducted via a component having inductive properties. switch provided in the charging circuit or a switch provided in the discharging circuit is repeatedly actuated in such a way during the charging and the discharging, respectively, that the piezoelectric element is brought to a predetermined voltage by a predetermined average charging or discharging current.
