  • Patent number: 6238123
Abstract: Two structural parts are interconnected by a distance holder disposed therebetween. The distance holder includes two supporting bodies and a control element. The supporting bodies are connected to the control element such than an axial spreading-out of the supporting bodies occurs in response to rotation of the control element, whereby the supporting bodies engage respective ones of the structural parts. The supporting bodies are held against rotation about the axis, whereby the structural parts do not become scratched by the supporting bodies.

  • Patent number: 6230867
Abstract: A vehicle seat has a seat adjuster. The seat adjuster includes a brake acting between a stationary part and an adjustable part. By use of the brake, the adjustable part can be blocked in a variety of positions in both adjustment directions on the stationary part and which can be applied by means of a freely switching element. An adjusting device acts on the freely switching element for selectively adjusting the adjustable part in both directions. An additional locking mechanism is provided which when the adjusting device is not in operation, automatically engages and when the adjusting device is not in operation automatically disengages.

  • Patent number: 6178838
Abstract: An adjusting mechanism, in particular for seat adjusters in automotive vehicles, includes a drive member having a toothing and being movable in either of two mutually opposite directions. An actuating member is provided with two claws movably mounted on the actuating member such that, when the actuating member is moved out of a neutral position into one of two directions along the toothing of the drive member, one of the claws meshes with the toothing and the other claw is lifted away from the toothing by a guide contour. A switching member is movable along the toothing and is arranged to be entrained by the movement of the actuating member and to cancel the meshing engagement between the one claw and the toothing when the actuating member returns towards the neutral position.

  • Patent number: 5794479
Abstract: An adjustable member such as a seat back of a vehicle is connected to an adjustment mechanism which transfers an external mechanical or manual force to the seat back. The adjustment mechanism includes an actuating element which rotates the seat back in either direction in response to the application of the external force. An elastic return element stores energy during such movement to subsequently return the actuating element to a rest position. During such return, the actuating element is automatically disconnected from the seat back.

  • Patent number: 5771751
Abstract: A turnbuckle for a tensioning cable includes a casing forming a cavity. An internally threaded nut is mounted to the casing at one end of the cavity, the nut being rotatably and non-axially movable relative to the casing. An externally threaded bolt is threadedly mounted in the nut and projects into the cavity. The bolt is axially and non-rotatably movable relative to the casing, so that rotation of the nut produces axial movement of the bolt. The casing and bolt have a radial slot formed at adjacent ends thereof, opposite the nut, for attachment to a tensioning cable. The bolt includes a radial cam at each end thereof, each cam having an axially extending first stop for engaging cooperating second stops formed at axial ends of the nut to terminate rotation of the nut when the bolt is at either end of its stroke. The nut includes a recess formed in an end thereof disposed remotely of the casing.

  • Patent number: 5769491
Abstract: A vehicle seat includes a back rest with lordosis support comprised of a bendable supporting element mounted on a wire grating by means of clamps carried by the supporting element. Each clamp forms a slot having a central tongue dividing the slot into first and second compartments for receiving first and second wires, respectively, of the grating. The combined widths of mouths of the two compartments is less than the combined diameters of the two wires so that the two wires cannot be inserted or removed simultaneously. The tongue is flexible to enable the two wires to be inserted or removed sequentially.

  • Patent number: 5722298
Abstract: An arresting screw is screwed into a transmission component so that a movable latch member of the arresting screw engages a gear shift selector to yieldably hold that selector in its respective positions. The arresting screw includes a core having screw threads, and a recess in which the latch member can slide. The threads and a surface of the recess are formed of metal. A plastic body is molded onto the core to close one end of the recess and to form a hexagonal head for receiving a tool. An electric switch can be integrated with the arresting screw for being actuated by the latch member. A housing of the switch is connected to the core by means of the plastic body. The plastic body can be molded onto the core and switch housing simultaneously or successively during the manufacturing process.

  • Patent number: 5717180
Abstract: A gear selector shaft of a vehicle transmission is held in respective positions by a yieldable latch element. The latch element actuates a switch when the gear selector shaft is in a predetermined position, such as in a reverse mode, so as to energize the back-up lights of the vehicle. The latch element is displaced by the gear selector pattern of the selector shaft in order to displace an actuator of the switch. A flexible steel membrane separates the actuator from the latch element. The latch element includes a first portion engageable with the gear selector shaft, and a second portion for displacing the switch actuator. The first and second portions are movable relative to one another once the switch actuator has deactivated the switch, so that the first portion can be further displaced without causing further displacement of the switch actuator and membrane.

  • Patent number: 5593210
Abstract: An adjusting mechanism for a vehicle seat back includes a shaft rotatable when the seat back is being adjusted, and a brake for selectively preventing or permitting such rotation. The brake has a shaft-locking position for locking the shaft against rotation, and a shaft-releasing position enabling the shaft to rotate in either direction, whereby the seat back can be adjusted in either direction. The brake is actuated by a manual actuator comprised of two slotted members which have respective slots that are superimposed one over the other and are overlapped at an oblique angle. A pin extends through both slots and is movable in two directions, i.e., for locking or unlocking the shaft. In each direction of pin movement the slotted members rotate in opposite directions to either actuate or release the brake. The slotted members can comprise parallel plates or telescoped tubes.

  • Patent number: 5522488
Abstract: A device includes a driven member arranged to be moved to adjusted positions by a driving member. The driving and driven members are arranged to rotate about a common axis of rotation. The driving member is axially movable between first and second axial positions. In its first axial position, the driving member transmits rotational movement to the driven member in both directions of rotation, and the driven member is locked against rotation relative to the driving member. When the driving member is in its second axial position, the driven member is able to rotate relative to the driving member in both directions of rotation. The driven member can be connected to a seat back of an automobile seat, and the driving member can comprise a hand wheel for effecting adjustment of the seat back when the hand wheel is in its first axial position. The seat back is freely movable relative to the hand wheel when the hand wheel is in its second axial position.
