  • Publication number: 20210237698
Abstract: A brake system for a vehicle comprises a braking control unit comprising a first electronic control unit (ECU), a second ECU, and an actuator in communication with the first ECU and the second ECU. The ECUs each receive identical braking signals. On receiving a braking signal, the first ECU causes an actuator to activate a plunger to apply pressure to brake fluid in a hydraulic braking system, causing friction brakes to decelerate road wheels. The second ECU is configured to determine whether the first ECU is in a failure state. If the first ECU is in a failure state, the second ECU causes the actuator to activate a plunger to apply pressure to brake fluid in a hydraulic braking system, causing friction brakes to decelerate road wheels. The actuator and ECUs are disposed within a single unit.

  • Patent number: 11036252
Abstract: A pedal assembly for use in a motorized vehicle comprises a horizontal member, a pedal connected to the horizontal member at a first position, and a spring having a first end and a second end. The spring is connected at the first end to the pedal, and is connected at the second end to the horizontal member at a second position. Depressing the pedal within a first range of angles causes the spring to exert a reactive force within a first range of values increasing at a rate having a first maximum slope. Depressing the pedal within a second range of angles causes the spring to exert a reactive force within a second range of values increasing at a rate having a second maximum slope.

  • Publication number: 20210039612
Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems for communicating a brake pedal input to a brake without a physical connection through a firewall of a vehicle is provided. The position of the pedal is detected and electronically communicated to a control unit that causes the brake to slow the rotation of a wheel and inhibit the movement of a vehicle. In addition, the driver can select a pedal force profile to provide a preferred pedal feel for the driver. The brake system and the control unit can also compensate for additional loads in or attached to the vehicle such as a trailer. For example, the control unit cases the brake to activate with an increased force so the vehicle slows at the same rate and with the same pedal feel for the driver, even with an additional load. Further features and details are described herein.
