The electronic looping system includes electronically controlled switches that are operable to loop selected transmission paths between the piece of central office equipment and the electronic looping system, to open selected transmission paths between the piece of central office electronic equipment and the electronic looping system, to loop selected transmission paths between the electronic looping system and the cross-connect frame, to open selected transmission paths between the electronic looping system and the cross-connect frame and/or to pass-through selected transmission paths between the piece of electronic equipment and the cross-connect frame.
