  • Patent number: 7019616
Abstract: A messaging system for determining whether a wireless message has been transmitted includes a wireless transmitter, a messaging controller and a transmission monitor. The transmission monitor receives all wireless messages transmitted by the transmitter and provides them to the messaging controller for comparison with message requests that were sent to the transmitter by the messaging controller. If a particular wireless message has not been received by the transmission monitor and fed back to the messaging controller within a predetermined amount of time, the messaging controller triggers at least one controlling action such as re-sending the message request to the transmitter, switching channels in the transmitter or notifying a system administrator.

  • Patent number: 5315642
Abstract: A paging device sends text messages to pagers via paging services observing different communication protocols. Communication data is stored in random access memory and includes a service file identifying telephone numbers and protocols associated with each paging services and a pager file containing pager identification codes. Operator message creation and automatic transmission occur contemporaneously, coordinated with status fields in message records. Each newly-created message is stored in a queue together with control data identifying a paging service and pager and status data indicating a "pending" status, namely, a requirement for transmission of the message. The automatic transmission involves repeated scanning of the queue for pending messages, programming a modem according to the message's control data, and arranging transmission to the relevant service. The status of messages subject to transmission errors is automatically set to "rejected".

  • Patent number: 4864600
Abstract: A telephone call processing system operates in tandem with an office telephone system having a central switchboard. The system comprises a central control unit used by the operator and remote units associated with each office telephone. The central unit comprises a keyboard and a display which permit the operator to compose and direct enquiry messages to each remote unit regarding handling of incoming calls and to compose and store records regarding unanswered calls. Each remote unit has a display which displays enquiry messages transmitted by the operator and flashes light emitting diodes or emits a muted beeping sound to draw an individual's attention to the incoming call. A number of buttons permit the individual to return standard responses without direct verbal communication with the operator.

  • Patent number: 4817153
Abstract: An adapter converts a monaural microphone unit for stereophonic operation. The adapter has an elongate cylindrical housing including an input jack which rigidly attaches to the microphone and receives the microphone signal and an output jack which makes stereophonic signals available to recording equipment. Two distinct signal transmission channels are present in the adapter for transmission of the microphone signal to the output jack. A gravity-responsive switch selects which of the two transmission channels is active depending on the orientation of the adapter housing relative to vertical. An interviewer maintains the adapter and microphone in a vertical orientation or inclined towards him to record his questions along one channel and tilts the adapter unit towards his subject to record the response on the other signal channel. Resistors couple the two transmission channels to ensure that the non-active signal channel is not silent but at least carries the microphone signal in attenuated form.
