  • Patent number: 5209654
Abstract: A fluid pump, particularly an extracorporeal blood pump, comprises a pump chamber (1) having an inlet opening (2) and an outlet opening (3), each connected to a respective non-return valve (4,5). The inlet (1) and the outlet (2) are movable in relation to each other and connected to a drive means (6) for periodic displacement of the inlet and the outlet alternately towards and away from each other, the interior volume of the pump chamber (1) being variable in correspondence with the relative distance between the inlet and the outlet. The pump chamber (1) is on its outside influenced by the surrounding pressure and has a wall of a flexible material constructed in such a manner that the pump chamber will collapse and reduce its volume, if the interior pressure in the pump falls below the surrounding pressure by an amount greater than the required opening pressure difference for the nomn-return valve connected to the inlet.

  • Patent number: 4925377
Abstract: A blood pump, particularly intended as an extracorporeal blood pump, comprises a pump cylinder and two discs spaced apart in the longitudinal direction of the cylinder and substantially filling the cross-sectional area of the cylinder. The discs are reciprocatingly movable in accordance with a preferably variable movement pattern. Each of the discs is provided with a non-return valve means permitting fluid flow through the disc substantially solely in the desired direction of fluid transportation. The discs may be movable relative to the stationary pump cylinder surrounding the discs, or they may be firmly connected with the surrounding cylinder wall, which therewith accompanies the discs in their movements, the cylinder section between the discs having in this case a length which varies in response to the variation of the distance between the discs, and a correspondingly variable volume.

  • Patent number: 4917797
Abstract: An apparatus for exchanging ions, molecules, gas, liquid, and/or heat between a first fluid and at least one second fluid, particularly when treating blood, includes a rigid vessel (1) having a substantially circular cylindrical center part (1a) and end parts (1b, 1c) connected thereto. Respective end parts inlet (2) at one end of the vessel and to an axially directed first-fluid tubular outlet (3) at the opposite end of the vessel. At least one bundle (4a-d) of hollow fibers is arranged within the vessel (1) and the opposite ends of the bundles are passed sealingly through the wall (5) if the vessel and opened into a respective inlet chamber (6a-d) and outlet chamber (7a-d) for a second fluid outside the vessel wall (5). The bundle is spread substantially uniformly across the flow path of the first fluid through the vessel from the tubular inlet (2) to the tubular outlet (3).
