  • Publication number: 20140101025
Abstract: A system and method of pre-configuring a financial account for later transactions is provided. The system includes an account server, which, after receiving a request to configure an account from an initiator, sends a prompt for identification verification information to the initiator. After receiving the verification information, the server configures the account with limitations based at least in part on the verification information. The server may also send the initiator a secure, compact identification code that can be used for later transactions. These later transactions are checked against the pre-defined limitations associated with the account, and they are processed if they fall within the limitations.

  • Patent number: 8596528
Abstract: Techniques for negotiation techniques for mobile personal trusted device financial transactions are provided. A user of a mobile personal trusted device sets user preferences that define the user's preferred parameters for conducting financial transactions. A merchant sets merchant preferences that define the merchant's preferred parameters for conducting financial transactions. When a financial transaction is initiated, a user preference and a merchant preferences are accessed. A negotiated preference is generated that accommodates both the user preference and the merchant preference. If the user preference and the merchant preference are not mutually exclusive, the negotiated preference attempts to satisfy both preferences. If the user preference and the merchant preference are mutually exclusive, the negotiated preference satisfies at least one of the two preferences based on which of the two preferences has a higher priority. The financial transaction is conducted based on the negotiated preference.

  • Patent number: 7357319
Abstract: An adaptor in accordance with the present invention allows a conventional magnetic stripe card POS reader to receive information from contact-based or wireless sources while maintaining the concurrent ability of the reader to interact with a magnetic stripe card. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, the adaptor includes an inductor capable of generating a magnetic field of sufficient power to couple with a head of a magnetic stripe card reader through the housing of the reader device. In this manner, the adaptor can be positioned external to the reader device, leaving the slot of the reader accessible for conventional interactions with magnetic stripe cards. Selective inductive communication with individual heads of the reader device may exploit their differing sensitivity to external magnetic fields generated by the adaptor.

  • Patent number: 7252232
Abstract: An adaptor allows a magnetic stripe card reader to receive information from other media such as wireless proximity chip cards while maintaining the ability to receive a magnetic stripe card. In accordance with one embodiment, the adaptor includes a simulacrum structure of sufficiently narrow width to fit substantially permanently within the slot of the magnetic stripe reading device, while providing sufficient room for a magnetic stripe card to also be concurrently accommodated within the slot and read by the reader head. The simulacrum structure may be in electronic communication with one or more transceivers of wireless communications such as RF and IR.

  • Patent number: 7127236
Abstract: A MicroAdapter device enables payment transactions to be effected through a purchaser's personal trusted device (PTD) without relying upon tokens or prepayment cards. In one embodiment, the MicroAdapter includes a transceiver configured to receive a purchase signal from the PTD including order and payment information. In response, the MicroAdapter communicates via wireless telephony with a transaction authorizer to receive authorization for effectuating the purchase transaction. The MicroAdapter may be particularly suited to effectuate micropayment transactions authorized by a Billing On Behalf of Others (BOBO) program administered through a wireless carrier/ISP or third party.

  • Publication number: 20040159700
Abstract: Embodiments in accordance with the present invention allow financial or other confidential information to be securely imported in electronic form into a PTD. The information to be imported is first encrypted. The encrypted information is then transmitted from a source to the PTD. The encrypted information is then stored by the PTD. A decryption key is sent to the PTD user in a manner establishing a strong non-repudiation scheme. For example, the decryption key could be sent from a second device, or through a second communication channel separate and distinct from the first communication channel. Utilizing the decryption key delivered through the second communication channel, the user is able to decrypt and access the information in the PTD for transactional purposes.
