  • Publication number: 20070222400
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a method and apparatus for visual enhancement of liquid crystal displays. A microprocessor or embedded microcontroller associated with visual enhancement circuit modules allows a single inverter to control the intensity of illumination for an array of multiple CCFLs. The microcontroller continuously senses the operating currents of every lamp and adjusts for variations in illumination of individual lamps by parallel switching of capacitance that ensures an equal current is applied to each lamp. The microcontroller produces the appropriate control signals and executes a digital servo control algorithm to modify the currents for carrying out the luminance adjustments.

  • Patent number: 7154924
Abstract: The present invention provides for a method for configuring a laser operating system. More specifically, the system utilizes a graphical user interface (GUI) to allow an operator to interact with an embedded controller and set parameters for an optical communications transceiver. The system adjusts parameters such as laser bias and modulation currents, wavelength, qualification tests, and file management. In other words, the GUI manages configurations of a transceiver operating system. The system provides for an efficient method to design a laser transceiver and to perform and manage qualification tests. The embedded controller may contain a real time operating system that controls multiple functions in the transceiver and an optical channel. The GUI interacts with an operating system to download embedded firmware into an embedded micro controller unit (MCU). Downloading of firmware allows for multiple special programs from different sources to be integrated.

  • Publication number: 20060260513
Abstract: The cement comprises a belite clinker (A) and a second component (B) made up of particles of at least one ceramic material. Preferably this second component has a particle size under 100 nm, and is present in a ratio between 0.2% and 15% by weight of the belite component (A). This cement has the advantages of conventional belite cement and also has better mechanical properties. The process for obtaining a building cement comprises the steps of: (a) producing a belite cement (A) clinker from low lime content fly ash by adding lime (CaO) to the clinker until reaching a CaO/SiO2 molar ratio greater or equal to 2 and hydrothermally treating the mixture; (b) grinding the obtained clinker; and (c) adding to the clinker a second component (B) made up of at least one ceramic material with a particle size under 100 nm.

  • Publication number: 20060263252
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for identification of a chemical or a biological agent using a handheld or portable unit in non-laboratory conditions. More specifically, the system uses a portable unit containing an array of tunable lasers, which are stabilized with a digital controller. The apparatus excites the sample under test with a narrow band light source used to excite fluorescence. The fluorescent response is detected with a broadband detector and digitized. The information is then sent through wireless means to a remote server where a database of appropriate signatures is used to determine the identity of the sample. The results are sent back to the portable unit or to a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
