  • Patent number: 6447827
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of processing fish in a food processing unit (72), which method comprises the following steps: thawing (44, 62) during a thawing period by ejecting steam and water within the food processing unit (72) while continuously re-circulating air, cooking (46, 64) during a cooking period by firstly discontinuing ejecting water while continuing ejecting steam into the food processing unit, and secondly re-circulating air to maintain the ambient temperature at a predetermined temperature, cooling (48, 66) during a cooling period by discontinuing ejecting steam while ejecting water and continuously re-circulating exterior air communicated to the food processing unit (72). The food processing unit (72) is calibrated for determining the duration of the thawing, cooking, and cooling periods by using a temperature sensitive device to measure a core temperature of the fish and to establish the duration of the three periods according to the core temperature.

  • Patent number: 4519402
Abstract: A syringe for collecting a sample of blood or another liquid comprises a syringe cylinder and a piston arranged displaceably therein. One or more axially extending recesses are formed in the inner wall of the syringe cylinder axially spaced from the inner end thereof. The recess or recesses contain a material which is pervious to gas and impervious to liquid, such as a hydrophobic material, a hydrophilic material with capillary effect, or a material which swells when contacted by liquid. The sample collecting chamber within the cylinder may be vented to the atmosphere by placing the piston in the recessed area of the cylinder. Arterial blood may then pass into the syringe under arterial blood pressure, and the flow of blood into the syringe is automatically stopped when the sample collecting chamber of the syringe has been filled, because blood cannot pass the liquid impervious material arranged in the recesses.

  • Patent number: 4275774
Abstract: Ampoule-packed reference liquids for electrochemical measuring instruments, especially blood measuring instruments, are transferred from the ampoule to the measuring instrument pneumatically by providing a discharge conduit from the liquid in the ampoule, and providing, at the surface of the liquid in the ampoule, an elevated pressure so as to discharge liquid from the ampoule through the said conduit, and introducing the liquid in the measuring instrument. This pneumatic way of transfer is shown to give less distortion of the data of the reference liquid and to be less operator-dependent than the known methods. Invention also concerns a dispenser for performing the method, typically comprising an adaptor for receiving an opened ampoule and a pump for establishing the elevated pressure.

  • Patent number: 4160714
Abstract: A block-shaped measuring chamber unit, especially for use in electrochemical measuring apparatuses for defining measuring chambers therein. The block-shaped unit has oppositely directed or otherwise differently orientated surface parts each defining a depression to be used as a measuring chamber. These depressions are interconnected by means of straight bores or passages extending through the block-shaped unit. The block-shaped unit is preferably made from machinable glass-ceramic.
