  • Patent number: 6205328
Abstract: Methods and systems for signalling between a mobile station and a network for requesting supplementary services are disclosed. The network implicitly assumes that signals from a mobile station relate to either a held or active call or that a second action is required after the requested action is performed so that the complexity of the mobile unit can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5960004
Abstract: A software architecture for use in program controlled telecommunications switching exchanges in which application modules are employed to provide services to users of a particular communications application. Resource modules provide specific functional elements of communications services to the application modules by having access to and control over the exchange hardware. Network protocols provide communication between the application modules within the exchange and interfaces provide communications between the resource modules and between application modules and resource modules within the exchange.

  • Patent number: 5867784
Abstract: A digital cellular communication system supports call forwarding with better speech quality by avoiding unnecessary speech decoding when a call is forwarded from one network or exchange to another. A new information element that contains the network code of an originating mobile services switching center (MSC) is added in an initial address message, so that the address of the originating MSC can be properly determined by a terminating MSC or, if call forwarding has been initiated, by a forwarded-to MSC. A structured dialog is used for sending a speech coding request to the originating MSC in which a return result signal acknowledging the request is sent to the correct receiver in the terminating MSC or, if call forwarding has been initiated, in the forwarded-to MSC.

  • Patent number: 5850603
Abstract: The invention relates to a GSM-type telecommunications system having a superordinate unit or Home Location Register (HLR) which includes software necessary for base functions and relevant supplementary services. The software in the superordinate unit (HLR) is structured such to provide a first software set-up (21) for requisite base functions, a second software set-up (22) for added supplementary services, and a third software set-up (23) for coordinating the first and second software set-ups, so that the third software set-up (23) can be adapted to enable a supplementary service-related portion (22a) of the second software set-up (22) to be included or removed without affecting the first software set-up.

  • Patent number: 5781858
Abstract: A method pertaining to a telecommunications system for handling supplementary services for a mobile unit. The system includes a public land mobile network to which the mobile unit has subscribed. The mobile telephone network includes a main switch or gateway switching center to which there is connected a home location register. The mobile unit services are stored in this register. The method includes the steps of sending an authority word belonging to the mobile unit and the identification of the mobile unit to the home location register from a telephone unit in the telecommunications system via a telephone connection intended for handling services; checking the authority word by comparing the word with an authority word known to the home location register; accepting the authority word received from the telephone unit; sending a service handling specification from the telephone unit to the home location register; and performing the specified handling of the service.

  • Patent number: 5724664
Abstract: In a telecom system including a mobile telecom system having mobiles and mobile services switching centres, signalling between a mobile station and a mobile services switching centre with regard to handling operations of interest to supplementary services is performed by the aid of a support functionality in the mobile services switching centre. Upon receipt of an invoke component in an operation invoked by the mobile station, the support functionality analyzes the component in order to identify the corresponding supplementary service operation and a receiving supplementary service of the requested supplementary service operation. The support functionality then performs a syntax check on the data included in the component and specific to the operation in question, and, on request of the supplementary service, sends a response to the mobile station that has invoked the operation.

  • Patent number: 5610974
Abstract: A roaming arrangement enables roaming between different types of networks in a telecommunication system that includes a first standardized type of mobile network, a so-called home network, and a second standardized type of mobile network, a so-called guest network. A subscriber has an identity that is common for both the home network and the guest network. The roaming arrangement includes a signal handling arrangement, at least one home interface towards the home network, and at least one guest interface towards the guest net. A first signalling format between the arrangement and the home network is of the same type as a corresponding format in the home network. Also, a second signalling format between the arrangement and the guest network is of the same type as a corresponding format in the guest network.

  • Patent number: 5490201
Abstract: A method in conjunction with updating one or more HLR-databases included in a GSM-type mobile telephone system. Updating of an HLR is requested by sending a so-called Reset-message, which identifies the HLR-database concerned, to a number of VLR-databases. The losses in process capacity of the VLR-bases will be relatively small, because of the following: The time points at which Reset-messages and the time points at which radio contacts were made with different mobile stations are registered in each VLR. For each radio contact made between a VLR and a mobile station, a search is made in VLR to ascertain whether the mobile station belongs to an HLR which has been requested updating. If such is the case, the time point of the preceding radio contact between VLR and the mobile station is compared in VLR with the time point at which the Reset-message was received, wherein HLR is updated with data from VLR when the preceding radio contact occurred before the Reset-message was received.
