Abstract: In some example embodiments, there may be provided a method. The method may include receiving, at a user equipment, a plurality of multicarrier parameters including a scaling parameter, a first quantity of carriers in a first group of carriers, and a second quantity of carriers in a second group of carriers; operating in a first mode using the received scaling factor, when the received plurality of multicarrier parameters does not result in the second group having equal or better monitoring performance than the first group; and operating in a second mode inhibiting use of the received scaling factor, when the received plurality of multicarrier parameters results in the second group having equal or better monitoring performance than the first group. • Publication number: 20150296456
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are therefore in order to enable efficient management of multiple communication channels. In this regard, the method, apparatus, and computer program product may utilize a user equipment (UE) (208), such as a mobile terminal, to communicate a plurality of networks. The UE (208) may identify that multiple communication networks are available or in use, and notify a network node (204, 206) associated with one of the networks of the communication status. In response to receiving a notification that UE (208) is communicating across an alternate channel, the network node (204, 206) may reconfigure the channel with which the network node (204, 206) communicates with the UE (208), or instruct the UE (208) to do the same.

  • Publication number: 20150056998
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided in which the network is informed of a connection break with a device having multiple SIMs. In this regard, from the perspective of the device, information regarding a connection break with the device is provided to a network entity associated with a first network, the device communicating with the first network via a first subscription. The method may also cause the connection break to be initiated and causing another connection to be established with the device via a second subscription. From the perspective of the network, a method, apparatus and computer program product are provided in which the network receives information regarding the connection break and, based on the information, performs one or more network optimization actions.

  • Publication number: 20150017968
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided in which the network is informed of a device supporting multiple subscriptions as well as other information related to the operation of the mobile terminal having the multiple subscriptions. In this regard, a network entity is caused to be informed that a mobile terminal supports a plurality of subscriptions. The method may also cause information regarding the networks capable of being monitored by the mobile terminal to be provided to the network entity.

  • Patent number: 8548469
Abstract: An apparatus and method for attaching a wireless device to a wireless network. The apparatus comprises a processor arranged to, responsive to receipt of a reject message from a network control apparatus, cause the wireless device to: transmit a first attach request to the network control apparatus using a first communication layer and an existing connection between the wireless device and the network control apparatus; and responsive to a notification of a failure of the first attach request originating from a second communication layer which is lower than the first communication layer, transmit a second attach request to the network control apparatus using the first communication layer and a new connection between the wireless device and the network control apparatus, wherein transmission of the second attach request is effected independently of a timer started on receipt of the notification of a failure.

  • Patent number: 8447327
Abstract: In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, a method comprises receiving a plurality of reference signals (RS) from a plurality of nearby cells over a positioning time window comprising a plurality of positioning occasions; grouping the received reference signals into a set of RS groups based on a time difference between a minimum expected RS time difference (RSTD) and a maximum expected RS time difference of the received signals; buffering a subset of the set of RS groups of the received reference signals in a RS buffer whose size is based at least in part on a buffering margin and is smaller than a maximum possible time difference; measuring the buffered reference signals; and generating an observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) report based on the buffered subset of the set of RS groups of the received reference signals.

  • Patent number: 8204098
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing an efficient mechanism for transmitting information needed to receive a secondary carrier over an existing message protocol on a primary carrier for a multiple carrier capable communications terminal. The receiver terminal may receive, on a primary carrier, a message containing information including a timing offset and a cell identification for a secondary carrier, for example. The communications terminal may then correlate a receiver to receive the secondary carrier without the need for a separate synchronization signal on the secondary carrier. These embodiments result in additional efficiency in a communications system.
