  • Patent number: 4488084
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an electroluminescence structure comprising, in sandwich arrangement, a transparent substrate made of, e.g., glass, a first transparent electrode layer, a luminescence layer, a number of second transparant electrode layers disposed at least partially on the luminescence layer, and a black layer arranged in contact with the luminescence layer and the second electrode layer. The black layer covers the second electrode layer and is in contact with the luminescence layer outside of said second electrode layers. The black layer consists of an insulating layer and a wiring disposed on said insulating layer. Openings reaching the second elctrode layer are defined in the insulating layer opposite said second electrode layers such that the wiring can make electrical contact with the second electrode layers through the openings.

  • Patent number: 4416933
Abstract: Described herein is a thin film electroluminescence structure comprising a substrate layer (1), a first electrode layer (2), a second electrode layer (10) disposed at a distance from the first electrode layer (2), and a luminescence layer (6) disposed between the first (2) and the second electrode layer (10). Additional layer structures (3 to 5, 7 to 9) are disposed between the electrode layers (2 and 10) and the luminescence layer (6), said structures having current limiting and chemically protecting functions. The invention is based on the idea that it is possible to separate the functions of a chemical barrier and a current limitation from each other, whereby the production of the chemical protection in itself takes place without voltage losses, in other words, with a material whose electrical conductivity is essentially higher than the electrical conductivity of the current limiter.

  • Patent number: 4396864
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an electroluminescence display component comprising, in sandwich arrangement, a transparent substrate made of, e.g., glass and two thin film structures, each comprising two electrode layers and a luminescence layer disposed between said electrode layers. A light filter layer is disposed between the different thin film structures for realizing a double color display. The light filter layer can be an integral layer made of homogeneous material or a sandwich structure comprising, e.g., two epoxy layers functioning as adhesive layers and a colored tape or similar element disposed between said epoxy layers.

  • Patent number: 4388554
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an electroluminescent display component, which may be provided as a unified, large-scale device mounted on a substrate. Electroluminescent material is sandwiched between two electrodes, each of which may be formed in spaced lines, perpendicular to the lines of the other electrode, to form a matrix. At each portion wherein the electrodes are disposed in opposition to each other, each electrode is formed with elongated parallel gaps, divergent from the gaps of the opposed electrode, thus providing a screen effect and minimizing the unified areas at which the electrodes are opposed to each other.

  • Patent number: 4380867
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for making electrically conductive penetrations into thin films and equivalent. The penetrations reach from the outside surface of the thin films to be grown by means of depostion as layers at a temperature of 200.degree. to 700.degree. C. to an interior electrode layer. According to the method a desired quantity of a metallic substance whose melting point is lower and boiling point higher than the growing temperature of the thin film layers is placed on the interior electrode layer within each desired penetration area before the preparation of the following layer. Hereby the metallic substance, when being molten, prevents the formation of layers in the area above itself and, when hardening, forms the desired electrically conductive penetrations.
