  • Patent number: 7911943
Abstract: In a mechanism for controlling a communication connection with policy control, after the communication connection with policy control is established in a communication network between a user equipment and service providing network element via a network control element on the basis of an initial packet data protocol context, a modification of the initial packet data protocol context for the communication connection is requested or initiated at the network control element. When the modification is authorized, relevant resources for a modified packet data protocol context usable for signalling traffic and transmission of media stream data are set up.

    Assignee: Nokia Corporation
    Inventors: Juha Räsänen, Jorma Sarja
  • Patent number: 7715339
Abstract: Method and apparatus for dealing with a connection context request to establish a connection between a mobile station (MS) and a network gateway element. The gateway (such as a GGSN) determines whether binding information is required, then ascertains whether such information has been supplied. If the information is not supplied, the GGSN responds to the request on the basis of a policy determined by the operator of the network. This can include, for example, rejecting the request.

  • Patent number: 7391724
Abstract: A system and method with policy control function (PCF) for multimedia broadcast/multicast system (MBMS) services that includes a core network, one or more application servers, and one or more policy control functions (PCF). In one embodiment, the core network includes one or more gateway GPRS support nodes (GGSN). One of the application servers provides a MBMS service. At least one policy control function is operatively connected between each GGSN and application server. MBMS session request information is sent from the MBMS service server to the policy control function. The policy control function provides authorization information for a MBMS session to the GGSN.

  • Patent number: 5418787
Abstract: A signalling method for a radio system, including a plurality of base stations (BS1, BS2, BS3) and remote radio stations (MS1, MS2, MS3), in which a frequency channel serves as a time-shared control channel common to a plurality of base stations for transmitting messages. The base station (BS1, BS2, BS3), when having queuing messages, transmits the messages in the transmission time slot assigned to it on the time-shared control channel in the following order: a) the remaining messages of unfinished call set-up transactions initiated in the preceding transmission time slot, b) messages critical to the call set-up transaction and requiring an acknowledgement from the remote station, and c) messages requiring no acknowledgement from the remote station.
