  • Patent number: 7529929
Abstract: A system and method for enforcing digital rights management (DRM) rules in a terminal, even when the requesting rendering application is already operating. Content, which may be encrypted, is received at the terminal and securely stored. On-demand authorization is effected for the rendering application that is requesting access to the content, using secure communications between a DRM engine within the terminal and an operating system within the terminal that is augmented with a security manager adapted to engage in such secure communications. If the rendering application is found to be authorized, the DRM rules are applied to determine whether the rendering application may access the content, and if so, the content is made available to the rendering application.

  • Patent number: 7028186
Abstract: The security keys in the mobile terminals and access points of a wireless local area network (WLAN) are created, utilized and managed for a communication session between a mobile terminal and access point. Both the WLAN link level security protection and IP security functions of the network use the same Internet Key Exchange (IKE) key management protocol and use certificates in the same certificate hierarchy. When the mobile terminals associates with the network, it uses the IKE protocol with private keys and certificates to generate WLAN link level keys with the access point and provide mutual authentication.

  • Publication number: 20040249768
Abstract: The invention provides a method, system, and computer program product to control the access, copying, and/or transfer of a digital asset by mobile, wireless devices using a digital voucher. The digital voucher references a primary content that contains all of the expression for that particular asset and a secondary content that contains information that can be distilled out as a preview. The information in the primary content can be limited to a specified duration or a specific number of viewings. The author, owner, or possessor of the digital asset specifies the terms and conditions for distribution of the digital asset. The digital voucher authorizes the mobile, wireless device to access a specified primary or secondary content that may be located elsewhere in the network. The mobile, wireless device can download a copy of portions or all of the content depending on the terms specified in the voucher.
