  • Patent number: 4449557
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for sawing a piece of timber and particularly for edging a board. The piece of timber is brought to pass in its longitudinal direction through a measuring station and further, maintaining its position, to a sawing machine. The optimum width and sawing direction are determined by the measuring data obtained by means of measuring gates collected in the memory of a computer. The computer controls the sawing blades. The blades of the sawing machine are turned to take the desired sawing direction and are moved at an even speed in lateral direction during the sawing process. The apparatus comprises a conveyor for transferring the log of timber, a plurality of gates for measuring the optimum width and direction, a computer for collecting the data. The computer controls the blades so that during sawing, the sawing lines coincide with the edge lines of the calculated optimum board. The sawing machine is mounted on vibration dampers which act as springs.

  • Patent number: 4435122
Abstract: The disclosure describes a method and a device for pumping fiber suspensions of high consistency. Shear forces disrupting fiber flocs are induced near the front edge of the vanes of the impeller in a centrifugal pump which fluidize the fiber suspension hereby converting it into an easily pumpable state. This is effected by an inlet part having recesses and/or lobes in its inner surface in front of the impeller which cooperate with a rotor having an outer surface in which there are recesses and/or lobes disposed into the inlet part.

  • Patent number: 4308461
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for determining the location of a piece of timber having a flat top surface and two unfinished side surfaces or determining the width and location of its flat top surface is described. The piece of timber is subjected to radiation in such a manner that the top surfaces and the side surfaces are simultaneously subjected to radiation of different wave length. Light may be used as the source of radiation and rays of different wave length are reflected from the piece of timber and are separately detected by means of a light sensitive element.

  • Patent number: 4257301
Abstract: A series of apertures are formed in a blade of a circular saw which define a plurality of the strips interconnecting the toothed annular peripheral portion and the inside portion of the blade. The strips are dimensioned so as not to hinder the expansion of the peripheral portion and the width of the peripheral portion is so great that its own weight can bring about the required tension due to the centrifugal force when the blade rotates. The width of the peripheral portion is 10-30% of the diameter of the blade and the length of the flexible part of the strips is at least 10% of the diameter of the blade. The flexibility, defined by the formulaK=(L/B).times.(sin .alpha./N)in which L=the length of the center line of the flexible portion of the rib and B=the greatest width of the rib of this length, .alpha.

  • Patent number: 4240315
Abstract: A circular saw blade is divided into sectors through slots extending from the periphery toward the hub part so that adjacent sectors have appreciably different natural frequencies. The sectors damp one another's vibration so that the blade's function is stabilized.
