  • Publication number: 20090090326
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method (and corresponding system) of reducing fuel consumption in a diesel engine (300) when operating at less than full power, the method comprising the step of: adjusting (101) a viscosity of a system oil (301) from the engine (300) resulting in a modified system oil (301?), where the viscosity is adjusted so that the mechanical efficiency of the engine (300) is increased when the modified system off (301?) is provided to the engine (300) and wherein the step of adjusting is done on the basis at least one parameter representing an actual load of the engine (300) and a viscosity parameter of the system oil (301). In this way, the mechanical efficiency of the engine when operating at less than full speed/at partial speed is increased. This reduces the fuel consumption of a diesel engine and reduces the emissions of a diesel engine.

  • Publication number: 20080274919
Abstract: A method and system to reduce fuel consumption and environmental impact in a two-stroke engine. Fresh system oil having a TBN less than 10 is provided and used in the two-stroke engine to produce partially used system oil. The partially used system oil is withdrawn from the two stroke engine and at least one friction modifier is added to at least some of the withdrawn partially used system oil, wherein the addition of the at least one friction modifier reduces the friction coefficient of the withdrawn system oil, resulting in a system oil having reduced friction. The system oil with reduced friction is combined with partially used system oil remaining in said two-stroke and the combined system oil is used to lubricate pistons of said two-stroke engine.

  • Patent number: 7316992
Abstract: A method and system of creating a cylinder oil having a target TBN ranging from 40 to 70 for use in a two-stroke en line. Fresh system oil having a TBN less than 10 is provided. The fresh system oil is used in the two-stroke engine to product partially used system oil. An initial fluid containing at least some partially used system oil is provided. A first TBN of the initial fluid is determined. Cylinder oil having the target TBN is created by blending the initial fluid having the first TBN with at least one suited additive. The cylinder oil is provided to the two-stroke engine.

  • Publication number: 20060148661
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of and a corresponding system for reducing fuel consumption and environmental impact in a two-stroke engine, comprising the steps of obtaining system oil/consumable system oil (301?) from at least one engine (300), adding (102) at least one friction modifier (101) to at least a part of the obtained system oil/consumable system oil (301?), where the addition of the at least one friction modifier (101) reduces the friction coefficient of the obtained system oil/consumable system oil (301?), resulting in a system oil/consumable system oil with reduced friction (301?), and supplying said system oil/consumable system oil with reduced friction (301?) to said at least one engine (300).

  • Publication number: 20060068995
Abstract: This invention relates to a method (and a corresponding system) of creating a cylinder oil, the method comprising modification of at least one initial fluid (101) by determining the TBN(s) of the at least one initial fluid, determining a desired TBN of a cylinder oil (102) and adjusting the TBN(s) of the at least one initial fluid (101) accordingly by blending the at least one initial fluid (101) with suited additive(s) (103). In this way, a method (and system) for modifying initial fluid(s) to create a cylinder oil by adjusting TBN is obtained. This provides significant economical benefits since lubricants that otherwise would have to be disposed of can be re-used as a total-loss cylinder lubricant. Further cylinder oil does not have to be purchased. The oil(s) used to blend the cylinder oil is/are of more consistent quality as it is replenished contrary to the traditional practice which reduces machinery wear, etc.

  • Patent number: 6547038
Abstract: For the lubrication of the cylinders in marine diesel engines, it is normal practice to supply doses of oil through non-return valves in a ring area of the cylinder in immediate connection with the passage of a piston ring. It is aimed at providing a more-or-less uniform distribution of the oil along the circumference of the cylinder. However, a considerable variation is ascertained in the wear along this area. With the invention, use is made of a high-pressure injection through atomization nozzles, so that an outspread oil mist if formed opposite the individual nozzles, which upon being influenced by the rotating scavenging air in the cylinder is made to impinge against the wall by centrifugal force, and herewith to form a substantially continuous film of oil in a ring area immediately before the passage of the piston ring. There is hereby achieved a good utilization of the lubricating oil, i.e.
