  • Publication number: 20220016595
Abstract: The present invention relates to the reduction of materials at low temperatures (<600° C.) by means of microwave radiation without needing to use chemical reducing agents or electrical contacts. It relates more specifically to a method for reducing a material, which comprises the following steps: applying microwave radiation to a material disposed in a microwave application cavity; and separating simultaneously the fluid oxidation products generated from the reduced material, such that the method is carried out without chemical reducing agents or electrical contacts.

  • Publication number: 20170181231
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the heating a functional layer of coating material, such as a surface coating or an edge strip, in particular for applying the coating material onto an area of a workpiece, comprising a microwave source, an applicator and a microwave channel for supplying the microwave radiation generated in the microwave source to the applicator, wherein a microwave field is generable in the applicator on account of the supplied microwave radiation, wherein the applicator has at least one material channel, which passes through the applicator and through which the coating material can be fed such that the functional layer of the coating material is heated in the microwave field within the applicator.

  • Publication number: 20110043223
Abstract: The invention refers to a method for the non-invasive monitoring of the chemical reaction linked to the curing process of a thermoset plastic material using microwaves, from the real-time measurements of the reflection coefficient of a resonator sensor using a detector that simultaneously provides modulus and phase values. The invention also refers to, as an example of the application of the method, a device for the non-invasive determination of the degree of cure of a thermoset plastic material at microwave frequencies. In another aspect, the invention proposes a method for the determination of the unloaded resonance frequency and the unloaded quality factor of a very strongly coupled microwave resonator and a method for determining the complex permittivity of a material undergoing changes in density, such as those produced during the curing process of polyurethane.

  • Patent number: 7606522
Abstract: A microwave fuser apparatus, for a reproduction apparatus, the microwave fuser apparatus having at least two microwave applicators, staggered relative to a receiver member transport path with an area of overlap, for applying microwave energy to a receiver member traveling on such transport path relative to the microwave applicators to have toner images fused thereto. The microwave fuser apparatus has at least one additional microwave applicator, located adjacent to the overlapping area between the at least two staggered microwave applicators that applies microwave energy to the receiver member. The at least one additional microwave applicator effectively maintains an elevated temperature of a receiver member.

  • Patent number: 7515859
Abstract: A microwave fuser device for heating printing matter in a reproduction apparatus with microwave energy from a suitable microwave source. The microwave fuser device supplies microwave energy through the bottom of a multi-channel resonator including a gap to enable transport of printing matter therethrough. The device includes a power splitter having plural channels for dividing microwave energy from the microwave source between the channels of the multi-channel resonator. The power splitter has a mechanism to provide variable geometry of its plural channels, whereby the effective width of microwave energy from the resonator of the microwave fuser device can be matched to the width of such printed matter having an image fused thereto substantially preventing undesirable high loss of energy and low yield.
