Abstract: In a writing instrument with a pressure mechanism for the movement of a writing element (4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13) against spring pressure from a retracted position of rest into an advanced writing position, in which retention by means of a retention element (18, 19, 20) takes place, the retention element (18, 19, 20) has a cup section (18) open towards the rear. In this cup section is a ball (23) of magnetizable material which is axially freely movable back and forth in the cup section. Adjacent to the opening of the cup section (18) is a permanent magnet (16), the front face of which forms a concave contact surface (17), disposed coaxially to the writing element (4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13) for the placement of the ball (23).

Abstract: The control system is of the type which is manually controlled by a suspended control box. Directional errors arise when the control box is twisted relative to the installation being controlled since the controls on the control box no longer have their original meaning. A direction indicating mechanism is therefore provided which comprises an indicating member mounted within the control box and visible to an operator, which indicating member is held against rotation relative to the installation but is able to rotate relative to the control box itself.
