  • Patent number: 11180868
Abstract: A method of molecular self-assembly is disclosed using two interacting streams that are allowed to interact and are subsequently forced through an orifice. A first stream of a dope solution of polymer molecules is extruded out of a capillary. The dope stream is surrounded by a focusing fluid which is miscible with the dope solution. The interaction between the jet of dope solution and surrounding focusing fluid creates hydrodynamic stretching and allows for extracting solvent from the dope solution. Concentrated polymers within the solution at stretched regions of the jet interact, and finally self-assembly takes place after the fluids are forced through the outlet of a converging nozzle. The formation of the structure can be optionally completed in a coagulating space. The structures thus obtained such as fibers or threads can be wound onto a mandrel.

  • Publication number: 20210334948
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of determining the coherence between a physical object and a numerical model representative of the shape of a physical object, wherein a specific use of the method according to the invention is assessing and quantifying manufacturing defects. The method is characterized by a set of steps comprising: capturing multiple images of the physical object; processing the images to produce a second numerical model of the physical object; in a computer, aligning the first numerical model and the second numerical model to generate a third numerical model according to specific sub-steps, wherein the third numerical model comprises a plurality of points representative of the shape of the captured physical object. Compared with the first numerical model, the third numerical model allows determining a measurement of the coherence between the physical object captured by means of images and the first numerical model representative thereof.

The recombinant microorganisms include one or more modifications that reduce 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylic acid (PDC) hydrolase activity, 4-carboxy-2-hydroxy-6-methoxy-6-oxohexa-2,4-dienoate (CHMOD) cis-trans isomerase activity, 4-carboxy-2-hydroxy-6-methoxy-6-oxohexa-2,4-dienoate (CHMOD) methyl esterase activity, and/or vanillate/3-O-methylgallate O-demethylase activity. The recombinant microorganisms can be used to generate PDC from media comprising plant-derived phenolics, such as syringyl phenolics, guaiacyl phenolics, and p-hydroxyphenyl phenolics. The plant-derived phenolics can be derived from pretreated lignin, including depolymerized lignin or other chemically altered lignin.
