  • Patent number: 9719303
Abstract: A method of forming a wellbore includes providing a drilling assembly comprising one or more lengths of casing and an axially retracting assembly having a first tubular; a second tubular at least partially disposed in the first tubular and axially fixed thereto; and a support member disposed in the second tubular and movable from a first axial position to a second axial position relative to the second tubular, wherein, in the first axial position, the support member maintains the second tubular axially fixed to the first tubular, and in the second axial position, allows the second tubular to move relative to the first tubular; and an earth removal member disposed below the axially retracting assembly. The method also includes rotating the earth removal member to form the wellbore; moving the support member to the second axial position; and reducing a length of the axially retracting assembly.

  • Patent number: 5305571
Abstract: Two types of corner couplings together with horizontally extending and vertically extending beams form a multi-cornered paneled frame structure. One coupling connects, with suitable connectors, horizontally and inwardly extending panels to the horizontally extending beams and the other coupling connects, with suitable connectors, vertically extending panels to said horizontally extending beams and to the vertically extending beams. Other suitable connectors secure the two types of couplings to each other.

  • Patent number: 4785300
Abstract: An improved acoustic signal generator has rotor and stator elements, each having a plurality of radially-extending lobes and intervening ports relatively positioned and configured to establish fluid dynamic forces that bias the generator into an open position, thereby imparting a "stable open" characteristic to the generator. The rotor is located downstream of the stator, and rotor lobes are outwardly tapered in the downstream direction and have underlap relative to the upstream stator lobes. The invention is especially suited for use in oil industry MWD operations to communicate downhole measurement data to a well surface during drilling. In one embodiment, undercuts on the rotor lobes impart a flutter action which clears debris.
