  • Patent number: 11179653
Abstract: A desalination system includes a distillation unit to which a fluid to be desalinated is provided and through which a heat transfer fluid flows, and a solar concentration unit configured to heat the heat transfer fluid. The solar concentration unit includes an array of linear Fresnel reflectors, each linear Fresnel reflector of the array of linear Fresnel reflectors rotating about a respective axis, a receiver configured for absorption of light redirected by the array of linear Fresnel reflectors, the receiver comprising tubing through which the heat transfer fluid flows, and a frame supporting and positioning the receiver relative to the array of linear Fresnel reflectors. The frame defines a track along which the receiver is movable to adjust a relative position of the receiver along the respective axis of each linear Fresnel reflector of the array of linear Fresnel reflectors.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 16, 2019
Date of Patent: November 23, 2021
Assignee: The Regents of the University of Michigan
Inventors: Pablo Taddei Arriola, Jose Alfaro, Rafael Enrique Cabanillas López, Iuliana Mogosanu

  • Patent number: 10029404
Abstract: A film layer is disclosed that is capable of shrinking when subjected to energy, such as heat. The film layer, for instance, can be formed and then stretched in one or two directions at a relatively low temperature. In particular, the film is stretched while the film layer is at a temperature near the glass transition temperature of the polymer used to form the film. Drawing the film at a relatively low temperature has been found to improve the shrink properties of the film. In one embodiment, the film layer is comprised of a non-modified polyester, such as polyethylene terephthalate. For example, the polyethylene terephthalate can be made by reacting terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 13, 2014
Date of Patent: July 24, 2018
    Assignee: Mitsubishi Polyester Film, Inc.

  • Patent number: 5646865
Abstract: Automotive vehicle electronic devices are diagnosed through communication with a flexible diagnostic tool which automatically switches between a wide variety of communications protocols as required for diagnostic communication tasks presented to the tool. Simultaneous communication with a plurality of devices under a plurality of communications protocols is supported by the tool wherein communication hardware is available for parallel communications under the various protocols via various communication channels and is apportioned for each active diagnostic communication task for the duration of that task.
