    Abstract: A microfiche reader includes a base, a light source, an optical system and a platen that is capable of moving in a plane. Movement of the platen in two perpendicular, linear directions is controlled by two motors, each of which is fixedly mounted on the base. Connection between the movable platen and the fixed motors is provided by means of three interconnected slides, two of which are disposed parallel to one another.
