  • Patent number: 11828230
Abstract: Mitigating particulate intrusion to an air intake system of a gas turbine system with intrusion protective coatings tailored to locale of operation. A particulate intrusion protective coating is applied to a surface of a component of the air intake system to mitigate ingress of particulates within the air intake system and the gas turbine system. The particulate intrusion protective coating includes one or more particulate ingress influencing properties tailored to the common attributes of the particulates associated with the locale of operation of the gas turbine engine and the air intake system. The particulate ingress influencing properties affect rebounding and coalescing characteristics of the particulates at a point of impact with the applied surface having the particulate intrusion protective coating, entraining the particulates at the point of impact and inhibiting further ingress along an inlet air flow path of the air intake system into the gas turbine engine.

  • Publication number: 20230033140
Abstract: A control system for turbine systems configured to provide accurate interpretations of detected particle accumulation, improve performance of turbine systems, and/or minimize costs due to downtime and maintenance are disclosed. The control system may build an intelligent model of fluid flow based on measured data provided by a sensor in a fluid flow path of the turbine system. The intelligent model consults a filter efficiency framework and determines an impact value that quantifies an operational efficiency of the turbine system and may identify a location of possible leakage, estimate a total amount of ingress of particles, identify components of the turbine system that may be operating in a diminished capacity, estimate a risk of damage to components of the turbine system, and/or recommend mitigation actions.

  • Patent number: 11333070
Abstract: A gas turbine engine that includes an inlet volume flow control appliance and methods of operating the same are provided. The method includes operating the gas turbine engine with the inlet volume flow control appliance supplying a compressor inlet volume flow that is below a maximum compressor inlet volume flow. A mass flow of a liquid agent is added to a compressor gas mass flow while the gas turbine engine is operated with a compressor inlet volume flow below a maximum compressor inlet volume flow. The mass flow of a liquid agent may be controlled as a function of the pitch of variable inlet guide vanes. The method further comprises adjusting the volume flow control appliance to increase the compressor inlet volume flow and increasing the mass flow of liquid agent added to the compressor gas mass flow while the inlet volume flow control appliance increases the compressor inlet volume.
