  • Publication number: 20070299467
Abstract: A tourniquet may include an elastic band having a first end and a second end, a first attachment member affixed at the first end, a second attachment member affixed at the second end; and a third attachment member, which may be attached to and slideably displaceable along the elastic band. The third attachment member may be sized and shaped to be attached to the first attachment member and the second attachment member. • Publication number: 20070014506
Abstract: Fiber optic position transducer that includes a magnetic or electromagnetic element, one or more segments of magnetostrictive material, Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors, a rod of material that is impenetrable to magnetic fields, optical fiber. One or more of the sensors is fixed upon a segment of magnetostrictive material, which is fixed to a rod, and may only be displaced longitudinally. The Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors have different wave lengths and are made of the same optical fiber. The magnetic or electromagnetic element included may be made of NdFeB (Neodymium Iron Boron) or metal alloys of TbDyFe (Terbium, Dysprosium and Iron), such as TX, Terphenol-D and others. It is applied to a control flow valve in an oil well, and it also refers to the calibration process of the position of the transducer.

  • Publication number: 20060138313
Abstract: A spectral imager includes an elongate light propagation medium that receives light at one end, has graded average spectral absorption properties in the elongate direction, and spectral detectors distributed in the elongate direction. The spectral absorption properties of the medium can be graded in both elongate and transverse directions. Both linear and two-dimensional arrays can be formed, enabling simultaneous hyperspectral detection.

  • Publication number: 20060072869
Abstract: A fiber optics position transducer is described (100) for flow control valve in smart wells, which comprises at least two load cells (10) instrumented with Bragg (FGB) network sensors and supported by rings (20a, 20b). The cell (10) is formed by a quadrangular body (11), provided with a central hole (12) and hole (13a/13b) for inlet/outlet and passage of a fiber optic (14) and pins (14a, 14b). Said cell (10) measures the displacement of a spring used in the sliding sleeve, rotating or choke type valve from the smart completion system, the displacement (opening or closing) of the valve being monitored from the restoration force in the spring measured by the instrumented load cell (10). The transducer (100) is built with dimensions and geometry so as not to present edges and allow the insertion of the same in the annular space of a sliding sleeve, rotating or choke type valve of an oil production system.

  • Publication number: 20060068185
Abstract: This invention reveals polypropylene composites to be used in the automotive, electronics, packaging and textile industries, which comprises a polypropylene homopolymer in a proportion ranging from 10 to 60% by weight, a natural reinforcement based on eggshells, and an antioxidant. This invention also reveals a natural reinforcement produced from eggshells obtained as an agroindustrial waste, the process to obtain said composite, and the process to obtain such reinforcement. By means of this invention, polypropylene composites using the natural reinforcement are obtained that have improved mechanical and thermal behavior when compared to polypropylene composites using traditional mineral reinforcements.

  • Publication number: 20060062510
Abstract: A fiber optics differential pressure transducer (100, 200, 300, 400) containing Bragg networks (118), said transducer being used to measure the differential pressure in a Venturi installed inside a pipe (1), through which a fluid like oil is displaced. The transducer comprises a body (110, 230, 360, 410) of different geometries and a diaphragm (2), at least one Bragg network (118) being attached on each of the surfaces of the same. The diaphragm (2) is placed parallel or transversal to the transducer's body (100, 200, 300, 400). The transducer (200) is isolated from the process fluid by flexible mechanical seals (201) which transmit the pressure up to surfaces of the diaphragm (2). The transducer (300, 400) is provided with two relief microvalves for the purpose of protecting the sensor [diaphragms (2)] in overpressure events.
