  • Publication number: 20040015569
Abstract: A system and method for communicating partial notifications relating to a presentity's presence information. The communication may be effected between presence servers and terminals coupled to the presence servers via a network. At least one presentity is identified to which a terminal has requested presence services. A presence document is created, where the presence document includes presence information corresponding to the presentity. The presence information is configured as partial presence information comprising less than a total of the presence information available for the presentity. The presence document having the partial presence information is communicated to the terminal requesting the presence information.

  • Publication number: 20030236896
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method which provides authentication for data services for at least one UE (12) using common authentication information based upon information stored in a HSS (16) of a home network (20) of the at least one UE for multiple protocols. At least one proxy server (18) stores authentication information for each of the protocols which may be used to provide data services to the at least one UE. Authentication of the protocols available to the at least one UE uses the authentication information stored at the at least one proxy server obtained from the protocol used in the home network of the at least one UE.

  • Publication number: 20030223426
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for handling a request by a first communication device 11 connected to a network of a communication system to establish a packet switched session with a second, wireless communication device 12, which session requires the second communication device 12 to be connected to a network which enables the establishment of the session. In order to enable an enhanced handling of such a request, it is proposed that it is first determined whether the second communication device 12 is currently connected to such a network. In case it is determined that the second device 12 is not connected to such a network, a corresponding indication is transmitted to the first device 11. The user of the first device 11 is then informed via the first device 11 that the requested session cannot be established. The invention relates equally to a communication system enabling such a method and to corresponding elements 11, 13 of such a system.

  • Publication number: 20030055981
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for providing call features to an IP endpoint of a communications system during an initialization of a session between at least two IP endpoints of said system. The session is initialized by transmitting messages defined in a SIP (session initiation protocol) between a first IP endpoint of the communications system and at least a second IP endpoint of the communications system. In order to improve the provision of call features, it is proposed that messages defined in the SIP are used in addition during the initialization for transmitting data required for a set of desired call features from the first IP endpoint to the at least second IP endpoint. Equally proposed are corresponding IP endpoints and a corresponding communications system.

  • Publication number: 20020181495
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for communicating codec related information between a first mobile communication device (UE1) and a second mobile communication device (UE2) via a network. The codec related information relates to operational modes of an adaptive multi-rate (AMR) codec. The information is transmitted by the first mobile communication device (UE1) to the second mobile communication device (UE2) in a form of a binary mask in an SDP (Session Description Protocol) body (33) of a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) INVITE message (31), a value of 1 indicating the operational modes which are supported by the first mobile communication device (UE1). In the event that the network does not support at least one of the operational modes that the codec related information indicates as being supported the network modifies the codec related information accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20020141358
Abstract: Application-layer signaling of a packet data network, such as the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), is used to communicate with an interworking interface between the packet data network and a circuit-switched network, particularly a public land mobile network (PLMN), wherein the interface converts the application-layer signaling of the packet data network to a control protocol utilized in the PLMN, wherein a private user identification is carried, for example, by means of a Session Description Protocol (SDP) within the application-layer signaling between the packet data network terminal and the interface, and wherein standardization of lower layers of the packet data network protocol stack is not required beyond that which is already defined. The interface between the packet data network and the circuit-switched network provides the private user identification to the circuit-switched network in the manner in which the circuit-switched network is accustomed.

  • Publication number: 20020126701
Abstract: Application layer signaling is provided from users registering at a presence server for a presence service wherein upon reception the signaling is checked for spatial location information and stored for future use in providing the presence service in association with other user information, such as user identity. The application layer signaling may be in accordance with the session initiation protocol (SIP) and the spatial location information provided as a spatial location payload (SLoP). The presence service may provide access to the spatial location information to one or more location based services either openly or confidentially by hiding the user's identity and other information. The spatial location information may also be used in conjunction with a messaging service for providing messages to the users with enhanced functionality.
