  • Publication number: 20240093136
Abstract: A culture module is contemplated that allows the perfusion and optionally mechanical actuation of one or more microfluidic devices, such as organ-on-a-chip microfluidic devices comprising cells that mimic at least one function of an organ in the body. A method for pressure control is contemplated to allow the control of flow rate (while perfusing cells) despite limitations of common pressure regulators. The method for pressure control allows for perfusion of a microfluidic device, such as an organ on a chip microfluidic device comprising cells that mimic cells in an organ in the body, that is detachably linked with said assembly, so that fluid enters ports of the microfluidic device from a fluid reservoir, optionally without tubing, at a controllable flow rate.

  • Publication number: 20200049053
Abstract: Recovery of heat from a variable thermal load application and the delivery and spreading of this heat at a controllable temperature range to the target application such as a thermoelectric generator by a heat spreader located between a hot source heat exchanger and a target application which uses liquid-vapour phase change to lower temperature and spread heat along the target application, thereby avoiding the risk of overheating under high loads and thermal dilution under low loads. Variable conductance heat pipes, thermosiphons or vapour chambers are embedded in the spreader within the heat path which absorb heat by vaporization whenever this heat is above the phase change temperature. This phase change temperature is regulated via a non-condensable gas inside the chambers of the heat spreader. One application is for an automobile exhaust pipe, another is as an inlet to an industrial process. Other applications are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20110197794
Abstract: “PORTABLE DEVICE FOR SUPPLYING OUTLETS INCLUDING RETRACTABLE ELECTRICAL EXTENSION CORD” consists in a body (1), on a pillar shape, with a wide base (2) in order to confer stability to the device. On the top of the body, there are outlets (6) disposed in appropriated height to supply devices positioned over an elevated surface such as a table, balcony or stand. The body contains electrical extension with mechanism of automatic retraction. Inside of the body there are two cylinders (8, 10) supported on two axes (9, 11), one in the base and another one next to the top. Both cylinders are involved by a strap (7) that contains two tracks (15) of conductive material in which are an electrical, flattened and thin cable (4) with an anti-stumbling effect. This cable (4) is rolled from one of its extremities on the strap (7), when retracted, and its opposing extremity leaves for an orifice (3) next to the base of the body, finishing in the electrical plug (5).

  • Publication number: 20110178164
Abstract: An application of monoolein-based cationic lipid systems can be used for the complexation, transport and transfection of genetic material into target cells. The lipid systems can be prepared through the conjugation of the neutral lipid monooleoyl-rac glycerol (Monoolein) with the cationic tensioactives derived from Dioctadecyldimethylammonium (DODAX) as, for example, Dioctadecyldimethylammonium Bromide (DODAB), Dioctadecyldimethylammonium Chloride (DODAC) and Dioctadecyldimethylammonium Phosphate (DODAP). The lipofection method can present high levels of biocompatibility and reduced acquisition costs, and is applicable for molecular biology purposes (in vitro application), as well as in the health area in gene therapy (in vivo application).

  • Patent number: 7478091
Abstract: A method includes deriving a plurality of semantic categories for representing important semantic cues in images, where each semantic category is modeled through a combination of perceptual features that define the semantics of that category and that discriminate that category from other categories; for each semantic category, forming a set of the perceptual features comprising required features and frequently occurring features; comparing an image to said semantic categories; and classifying said image as belonging to one of said semantic categories if all of the required features and at least one of the frequently occurring features for that semantic category are present in said image. A database contains image information, where the image information includes at least one of already classified images, network locations of already classified images and documents containing already classified images. The database is searched for images matching an input query, including, e.g., an image, text, or both.

  • Publication number: 20080109272
Abstract: In one non-limiting aspect thereof the exemplary embodiments of this invention provide a computer-implemented method to make a decision as to whether a particular claim submitted by a first economic agent for approval by a second economic agent may be a fraudulent claim. The method includes applying statistics to information representing a proxy of fraud to generate an estimate of a probability of fraud for the particular claim; updating the estimate of the probability of fraud using decision making under uncertainty that is based at least in part on at least one type of additional information; applying game theory to the updated estimate of the probability of fraud to model strategic behavior between the first and second economic agents; and generating a recommendation to audit or not audit the particular claim. The proxy of fraud may be imperfect proxy of fraud, such as is found in nascent industries.

  • Publication number: 20070298514
Abstract: The present invention relates a laboratorial microsystem for biological fluid analysis, especially the concentration measurement of biomolecules in those fluids, for application in clinical analyses. This device combines in a single microsystem the microchannels, the optical filters, the detectors and the readout electronics, enabling the measurement of the concentration of several biomolecules using white light source as illumination, thus avoiding the use of a wavelength dependent light source (such as a laser, for example). Its operation is based on colorimetric detection by optical absorption. A white light beam is guided through the microchannels containing the samples to analyse. The impinging light is filtered by a narrow passband optical filter at the wavelength defined by the biomolecule being analysed.
