Abstract: A method and system for transferring money orders from a remitter to a payee comprises providing the remitter with a pre-paid money order receipt, receiving associated money order transaction data from said remitter, maintaining a database of valid money order receipts and related data and determining if the transaction data submitted by said remitter is valid, if valid, activating the transaction, receiving money order transaction data from a payee and determining if that transaction data is activated in the data base and, if the transaction data is determined to activated, delivering said payee the amount pre-paid by the remitter. The method may be performed through a communication network.
