  • Patent number: 4954665
Abstract: Process for production of ethanol at high efficiency, selectivity and conversion rate by the homologation reaction of methanol and carbon monoxide and hydrogen using a catalyst system containing alkali metal atom, cobalt atom, iodine atom and, optionally, ruthenium atom and an organic tertiary amino compound.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 27, 1986
Date of Patent: September 4, 1990
Assignee: Union Carbide Chemicals and Plastics Company Inc.
    Inventor: Jose' L. Vidal
  • Patent number: 4363765
Abstract: A particular process is provided for the recovery of rhodium values from liquid compositions. The process comprises contacting a solubilized rhodium complex with water, a crown ether and an alkaline cesium salt in the liquid phase such that a solid comprising rhodium is formed. The process is applied with particular advantage to the recovery of solubilized rhodium values derived from processes for the production of polyhydric alcohols such as ethylene glycol, and monohydric alcohols such as methanol, by the reaction of carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of rhodium carbonyl complex catalysts in a homogeneous liquid medium. The invention also concerns cesium/crown ether salts of anionic rhodium complexes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 3, 1981
Date of Patent: December 14, 1982
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Rocco A. Fiato, Jose' L. Vidal
  • Patent number: 4320064
Abstract: Particular polynuclear rhodium carbonyl complexes are provided which are useful in the production of polyhydric alcohols such as ethylene glycol by the reaction of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. These complexes are rhodium carbonyl cluster compounds comprising twenty-two rhodium atoms in the cluster cage.
    Type: Grant
