Patent number: 5435845Abstract: Compositions and methods relating to cementitious compositions are provided. The use of a glucoheptonate in the alpha form to prolong the workability of cementitious compositions is provided. The alpha form of glucoheptonate (found to have properties superior to the beta form when used to retard the hydration of cementitious compositions) can be used in combination with a plasticizing resin, e.g. a naphthalenesulfonate/formaldehyde condensate resin, to prolong the workability of a cementitious composition, without unacceptably delaying green strength development. Also provided are mixtures of a glucoheptonate in the alpha form and a naphthalenesulfonate/formaldehyde condensate resin plasticizer.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1993Date of Patent: July 25, 1995Assignee: Henkel CorporationInventors: Jose L. Villa, Zvi Grauer

Patent number: 3986996Abstract: Curable liquid polymers selected from mercaptan-terminated polysulfide polymers, polyepoxides and oganosilicon polymers are extended by mixing therewith, prior to curing 10% to 200% by weight, based on the weight of liquid polymer, of an aqueous colloidal dispersion selected from aqueous alkali metal silicates having an M.sub.2 O:SiO.sub.2 ratio of 0:1 to 1:1 and aqueous magnesium oxide. Upon curing of the mixture to solid form, nearly all of the water of the aqueous dispersion remains bound in the solid cured material and little, if any, shrinkage occurs.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1974Date of Patent: October 19, 1976Assignee: Thiokol CorporationInventors: Jose L. Villa, Stephen W. Osborn

Patent number: 3975316Abstract: Liquid isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymers are cured by mixing them with about 5% to 200% by weight, preferably 10% to 100% by weight, based on the weight of prepolymer, of an aqueous colloidal dispersion selected from aqueous alkali metal silicates containing from about 20% to 60% solids and aqueous magnesium oxide containing from about 5% to 40% solids. The water associated with the aqueous dispersion is bound in the cured product and thus the dispersions act as both curing agents and low cost extenders. The cured materials may be non-porous elastomeric products or finely cellular products. Some of the cellular products are rigid and suitable for, e.g., structural applications. Both types of products have good flame retardant properties.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1973Date of Patent: August 17, 1976Assignee: Thiokol CorporationInventor: Jose L. Villa
