    Abstract: A bladed implement such as a knife, has a flexible blade extending from a handle. The blade can be rigidified for use by a series of slides which run along a slot in the blade and which can be forced into and held in end to end contact by an operating mechanism in the handle. The endmost slide engages a stop at the distal end of the slot. When the operating mechanism is released, the slides are free to separate and the flexibility of the blade is restored.
