  • Patent number: 7975131
Abstract: A processor having multiple distinct instruction sets is disclosed where one set, a default set, is always available for execution while a second set is only available once a valid control code is externally supplied to the processor to effectively “unlock” and enable the second set. Once the second set is so unlocked, then the instructions in both sets are available for subsequent execution by the processor to provide enhanced functionality only available through use of the second set, such as accessing on-line services and content information. Multiple unlockable instruction sets can also be similarly provided, each being separately unlocked and enabled through entry of an corresponding externally supplied control code.

  • Publication number: 20090278996
Abstract: There is disclosed a system comprising, a source-tuner having a receiver for receiving external broadcast-signals, and a transmitter for broadcasting internal broadcast-signals to a network that communicatively links the source-tuner to a number of tuners. The source-tuner is adapted to receive control-signals from the tuners and to select external broadcast-signals as the source of the internal broadcast-signals, on the basis of the control-signal received from the tuner.

  • Publication number: 20090103429
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system of remote power feeding of a DSL communication device. The system for performing the method comprises a central DSL system connectable to a plurality of DSL communication devices via a plurality of associated subscriber lines. A subscriber line provides a plurality of communication channels for signal transmission between the central DSL system and the DSL communication device. The method involves receiving a power failure indication signal from the at least one DSL communication device. Following the transmission of the power failure indication signal, one or more communication channels are selected from the plurality of communication channels for signal transmission over the subscriber line. Then, power is fed to the at least one DSL communication device in combination with signal transmission over said selected one or more communication channels of the subscriber line.

  • Publication number: 20090037706
Abstract: A data processing system has an embedded processor and a system memory. The embedded processor has access to a specific one of multiple sets of instructions pre-stored in the system memory, only if a control code valid for the specific set is supplied from a source external to the system.

  • Patent number: 6212662
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and devices for the detection of errors, in particular transmission errors, in data streams and/or data packets. In order to better detect systematic errors in particular, the error detection function according to the invention is variable. The detection function is varied on the basis of the time and/or the data themselves, for example by assigning an individual variation value to each index (packet index), effectively varying the data themselves. The invention is particularly suitable for application to compressed data streams.

  • Patent number: 5774467
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for converting data packets by coding or compression, source data packets being converted into transmission data packets. In order to achieve an optimal degree of filling of the transmission data packets, a data field of a transmission data packet according to the invention comprises only data of one logical channel. To this end, the compressed data of the logical channels are separately buffered in preferably parallel buffers. Reconstruction information is not incorporated in the data fields of the transmission data packets but, if necessary, is transmitted in advance. The invention is applied, in particular, in X.25 networks.

  • Patent number: 5721747
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for transmitting data in a processed manner on a communication channel, in which a first series (1) of data is converted into a second series (2) of data by means of a first operation (P), the second series (2) of data is transmitted on the communication channel and the second series of data is then converted into a third series (3) of data by means of a second operation (P.sup.-1). Check data (4) are formed on the basis of the first series (1) and are added to the second series (2). Subsequently, the integrity of the third series (3) is checked using the check data (4). The operations may comprise, respectively, data compression and data decompression. The check data are subjected to a protection operation (S) before they are added to the second series. Preferably, the method takes place at layer 3 of the so-called OSI model. The invention furthermore provides devices for using the method.
