  • Patent number: 9919897
Abstract: A governor includes a housing, a pulley, a belt, a first flyweight, and second flyweight. The housing defines a housing cavity. The pulley is disposed at least partially within the housing cavity. The belt is in contact with the pulley. The belt is operable to rotate the pulley at a rotational speed. The first and second flyweights are pivotably connected to the pulley, and are biased towards one another. At least a portion of the first and second flyweights are operable to move away from the pulley when the rotational speed of the pulley is increasing toward a predetermined threshold rotational speed. The first and second flyweights are operable to contact the housing, and thereby transmit rotational energy to the housing, when the rotational speed of the pulley is equal to at least the predetermined threshold rotational speed.

  • Patent number: 8931598
Abstract: A mechanism for use in an elevator governor assembly including a ground configured to rotate about a ground axis, three or more circumferentially overlapping cams each pivotally attached to the ground at one of three or more ground pivot points radially spaced from the ground axis, and a plurality of links pivotally attaching the three or more cams to one another at a plurality of link pivot points. The circumferentially overlapping cams form a substantially contiguous circular ring about the ground axis. The interconnection of the ground, the cams, and the links form a generally circular mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20130098711
Abstract: A device for stopping an elevator car travelling up or down along guiderails installed in a hoistway includes a chassis mounted on a side of the car, and an overspeed governor, a guiding device and safety gear mounted on the chassis. The overspeed governor detects when a car overspeed is occurring. The guiding device guides the elevator car along a guiderail. The safety gear is vertically aligned with the guiding device on the chassis and stops the elevator car by frictionally engaging the elevator guiderail, which passes through a channel formed in each of the safety gear and the guiding device. The safety gear causes the elevator car to stop by frictionally engaging the guiderail when the overspeed governor detects a car overspeed is occurring.

  • Patent number: 8113318
Abstract: An elevator machine (10) includes a machine shaft (14, 14?) and a sheave (26) that rotates with the machine shaft (14, 14?). A motor (12) selectively rotates the machine shaft (14, 14?). A brake (30) having at least one brake armature (36) selectively moves a brake rotor (28) coupled for rotation with the shaft (14, 14?) between a braking position and a released position. The brake rotor (28) selectively contacts a braking surface (44) formed directly on a housing (20, 22, 84, 90) to resist rotation of the machine shaft (14, 14?).

  • Patent number: 8052124
Abstract: An elevator brake (20) rotor for use in an elevator machine (10) includes a non-metallic elevator brake hub (36) and a metal flange (34), both of which have an opening with a splined portion for guiding axial movement of the rotor along a rotable shaft (14). This arrangement reduces metal-to-metal contact between the rotor and shaft and reduces noise.

  • Patent number: 6765163
Abstract: The invention is applicable to automatically triggered switches that are turned on by means of angular displacement, in either direction, of a contact bridge and its support (1). It is characterized in that the outside of the support (1) includes pins (3) which, when the switch is off, are perpendicular to the direction of displacement of an actuator (4) joined to a remote handle (13). Since the pins (3) turn as a consequence of the switch being turned on, when the handle is operated, the actuator (4) is displaced and its arms (6) force the pins (3) to move in the opposite direction into their initial position, effecting the reset. It is preferably used to reset switches provided in elevator speed limiters.
