  • Publication number: 20090032138
Abstract: An attachment device for a rotary tool having an output shaft extending from the rotary tool housing is disclosed herein. The attachment device comprises an attachment housing defining a vacuum mouth. A fastening member is coupled to the attachment housing, and is configured to releasably connect the attachment housing to the tool housing. A fan is retained within the attachment housing. The fan is configured for connection to the end of the output shaft extending from the rotary tool such that rotation of the output shaft results in rotation of the impeller. Rotation of the impeller causes air and debris to be drawn into the attachment through the mouth. A debris container is coupled to the attachment housing and is configured to receive the debris drawn into the housing through the vacuum mouth.

  • Patent number: 7484736
Abstract: A rotary tool accessory includes a body defining an axis of rotation and having a work piece contacting surface and a drive portion. The body has defined therein a body opening including a first opening portion and a second opening portion. The rotary tool accessory further includes an insert located within at least the second body opening. The first opening portion is contained within a space during rotation of the body about the axis. Both the drive portion and the second opening portion are advanced through a path during rotation of the body about the axis, the path being located outside of the space.

  • Patent number: 7387563
Abstract: A mandrel and accessory and related combination for use with a rotary tool are disclosed. For instance, the mandrel and accessory combination includes a mandrel assembly and an accessory. The mandrel assembly includes (i) a shaft component defining an axis and having a first portion configured to be received in a chuck of a power tool, and a second portion having a first shaft tooth and a second shaft tooth each extending in a perpendicular manner with respect to the axis, and (ii) a collar component defining a passage through which the shaft component extends, the collar component having a first collar tooth and a second collar tooth. The accessory includes an outer wall structure defining a circular outer periphery; and an inner wall structure defining a coupling opening. The accessory is configured to be releasably coupled to the mandrel assembly.

  • Patent number: 6712368
Abstract: A quick release attachment tool where the rotary tool has a housing which encloses a motor with the housing having a central axis, a non-operational end portion and an operational end portion. A nose portion is formed at the operational end portion, and the nose portion has an outer annular groove disposed generally perpendicularly to the axis. The nose portion also has a non-circular element at the outer end thereof coaxial with the central axis. A rotatable shaft is connected to the motor and located along the central axis. The attachment tool includes a central cavity, an attachment end portion and a working end portion. A non-circular mating element is formed in the central cavity that matingly engages the non-circular element of the rotary tool. There is also a biased connection element provided on the attachment tool, which faces the central cavity. This biased connection element engages the annular groove of the nose portion when the attachment tool is fitted onto the rotary tool.

  • Patent number: 5643063
Abstract: A carrier is connected to the plunger for reciprocating therewith; the carrier is of inverted U-shape defining a recess open at its bottom. A holder is pivotally mounted to the carrier for swinging movement back and forth between a first position wherein the holder is substantially nested within the recess in the carrier and a second position wherein a substantial portion of the holder extends out of and away from the carrier recess. The holder is also of inverted U-shape defining a cavity for receiving a portion of a contour sanding member. Detent elements on the carrier compress the holder when the latter is in its first position thereby to impart a clamping force to a contour sanding member received within the cavity of the holder. A manually operated ejection member mounted on the tool housing engages the holder for moving the same from its first position to its second position.
