  • Publication number: 20170338717
Abstract: An electrical machine (1) comprises a rotor (20), a stator (10), a rotor power supply (50), at least one sensor (70) and a rotor magnetization control arrangement (60). The rotor has rotor windings (22) for controlling magnetization of rotor magnetic poles (24). The sensor is arranged to measure a parameter associated with a relative force between the stator and the rotor. The rotor magnetization control arrangement is communicationally connected to the sensor for receiving a signal representing the measured parameter. The rotor magnetic poles are divided into at least two groups (23). The rotor magnetization control arrangement is arranged for controlling the magnetization of the groups individually by providing a respective individually controllable rotor current. The rotor magnetization control arrangement is arranged to individually control the rotor currents in dependence of the signal representing the measured parameter. A method for controlling such an electrical machine is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9785774
Abstract: A method and apparatus for scanning for or removing malware from a computer device. Under normal circumstances, the computer device is controlled by a first operating system installed in a memory of the device. In order to scan for or remove the malware from the computer device, control of the computer device is passed from the first operating system to a second operating system and, under the control of the second operating system, the device is either scanned for malware or the malware is removed. This allows malware to be detected or removed, even if it has affected the first operating system in some way in order to evade detection or removal.

  • Publication number: 20170110114
Abstract: Systems and methods for automatically mapping English phonemes to graphemes to support better reading and spelling instruction may include a mapping process for systematically dividing text words into graphemes made up of one or more text characters corresponding to appropriately identified phonemes (which may be represented by one or more phonetic characters). The process may also include automatically correlating each phoneme of a word with a grapheme representing the phoneme in order to produce a phoneme-to-grapheme map that may be optimized for educational use. Some embodiments may include a teaching process for presenting the results of the mapping process to students.

  • Publication number: 20160278399
Abstract: Provided are a process for forming a heat stable confectionery product and a heat stable confectionery product. The process for forming a heat stable confectionery product comprises carrying out a first process sequence comprising formulating a blend of a sweetener, a confectionery fat along with milk solids, cocoa solids or both, and conching the blend; providing a pre-sized sugar hydrate additive; and adding the sugar hydrate additive to the blend at the end of the first sequence to form a flowable confectionery paste, followed by cooling the confectionery paste to a solid. The heat stable confectionery product includes sugar hydrate, is visibly devoid of blooming, and is formed according to the process described above.

  • Publication number: 20160227712
Abstract: A Pyramidal shaped nursery pot that provides improvement in pot stability against wind blow over, improves root development through air root pruning and grooves to guide the roots downward, and reduces weeding effort, without negatively impacting space utilization and water consumption. The pot is made of a semi-rigid, preferably biodegradable material, is delivered flat, and has a self closing mechanism to keep the sides joined when it is assembled. The pot has a plurality of triangular apertures cut on the vertical sides that fold outwards as a flange, with the objective of the opening created by these to facilitate drainage of excess liquid from the pot and the passage of air to the growing media to enhance root development through air-pruning, and the flange formed and folded outwards with an angle towards the inside of the pot to serve as a water capture mechanism when aerial irrigation occurs.

  • Patent number: 9285136
Abstract: A filter assembly is adapted for separating particulate matter entrained in a moving fluid stream. The filter assembly comprises a flow-through three dimensional filter frame including a plurality of joined side walls, and having first and second opposing open faces. The first open face defines a fluid inlet into which the moving fluid stream is drawn, and the second open face defines a fluid outlet from which the moving fluid stream passes. At least one of the joined side walls is inwardly angled from the first open face to the second open face, such that the fluid outlet is smaller than the fluid inlet. A filtration medium is supported within the filter frame, and extends between the joined side walls and from the first open face to the second open face.

  • Patent number: 8967097
Abstract: A mechanism for varying the stroke length of an internal combustion engine during each cycle of operation includes a gear set with a first gear non-rotatably mounted to the engine block and a second gear having teeth formed on an inner surface thereof meshing with the first gear to achieve a uniform mechanical crank arm and a variable cam arm for producing a varying length of piston reciprocation throughout the overall stroke cycle of the engine. The orientation of the crank arm and the cam arm relative to the axis of piston reciprocation is selected for causing the crank arm and the cam arm to cooperatively produce a positive torque on the crankshaft at the top dead center position of the piston. The gear set is also selectively configured and dimensioned to achieve a predetermined ratio of the length of the cam arm to the length of the crank arm.

  • Publication number: 20150051961
Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for collecting and tracking ideas. A description of an idea is received by an innovation system from an idea owner. The innovation system sends the description of the idea to multiple investors. Requests to support the idea are received by the innovation system from the investors. The requests to support the idea include an investment amount. After the aggregate investment amount from every investor is greater than a threshold, the innovation system approves the idea. The innovation system then rewards the investors that supported an approved idea.

  • Patent number: 8281676
Abstract: A transmission system for transmitting a rotary motion input to a rotary motion output utilizing hypocycloid motion multiplication is disclosed. The system comprises an input mechanism, at least one hydraulic transmission means, an output mechanism and an output bladder linkage. The input mechanism includes a plurality of rollers that each capture at least one arcuate linkage against an inside surface of a cylindrical hub, causing the linkage to rotate as the roller traverses thereacross and compress one of a plurality of input bladders. The compressed input bladders cause an output bladder to expand to drive the output mechanism in reciprocal linear motion, which the output mechanism converts to rotational motion at the rotary motion output. The output mechanism can be located proximate to, or distal from, the input mechanism.
