    Abstract: Disclosed is a process for imparting hydrophobicity to an inorganic porous mineral substrate which comprises mixing at least one silane and/or hydrolysis and/or condensation product thereof, at least deactivatable surfactant and water or a water/organic alcohol mixture to form a dispersion emulsion, applying the resulting dispersion or emulsion to the substrate, and, if necessary, subsequently treating the substrate in order to deactivate the surfactant.
