  • Patent number: 9591594
Abstract: An apparatus includes a processor and a memory coupled to the processor. The memory stores instructions executable by the processor to perform operations that include determining power information indicative of total power of a designated number of channelization codes. Determining the power information comprises scaling a power offset value based on a number of available channelization codes and the designated number of channelization codes. The operations also include sending the power information to user equipment (UE). The operations further include determining a particular number of transport blocks and determining a distinct channel quality indicator (CQI) index of each of the transport blocks based on a CQI value received from the UE.

  • Patent number: 8422544
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, a method for estimating a transmitted signal is disclosed. A wireless signal is received that includes a pilot channel and at least one other channel. A transmitted signal is estimated using an equalizer and the received wireless signal. The equalizer includes a filter with a plurality of taps that are adapted through use of an adaptive algorithm that uses an estimated pilot estimated from the received wireless signal. The pilot channel is transmitted in the wireless signal that included the at least one other channel. The estimated pilot is extracted and provided to the adaptive algorithm.

  • Patent number: 8135351
Abstract: A method for improving channel estimation in a wireless communication system is disclosed. A wireless signal that includes a plurality of multipath components is received. N channel estimates are then obtained, where N is any positive integer greater than one. Each channel estimate of the N channel estimates corresponds to a different multipath component of the plurality of multipath components. The effects of interference between the plurality of multipath components on the N channel estimates is then reduced.

  • Patent number: 7929473
Abstract: Method and apparatus for reducing interference in a wireless communication system when the source of interference is a deterministic component of the system. In one embodiment, the receiver weights the transmitters according to when the source of interference is transmitted. Further, the transmitter may employ power boosting to overcome the source of interference. In one embodiment, a W-CDMA system transmits a sync channel concurrently with physical channels, wherein the sync channel is not orthogonal to the physical channels. The receiver may cancel the sync channel when receiving control or data information. Similarly, the receiver may weight the transmissions from multiple transmitters.

  • Publication number: 20070195809
Abstract: Techniques for sending signaling information are described. Multiple signaling channels may be available to send signaling information. Different signaling information, different signaling parameter values, or different interpretations of signaling parameter values may be associated with different signaling channels and conveyed by the selection of these signaling channels, which may be used for actual transmission of remaining signaling information. A transmitter selects at least one signaling channel from among the multiple signaling channels based on first signaling information and sends second signaling information on the selected signaling channel(s) to convey the first and second signaling information. The transmitter sends at least one data stream on at least one data channel in accordance with the first and second signaling information.

  • Publication number: 20070104150
Abstract: Techniques for transmitting data in a manner to support multi-user scheduling, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission, and interference cancellation are described. A base station assigns multiple time segments of a transmission time interval (TTI) to at least one terminal, maps data for each terminal to at least one time segment assigned to the terminal, and spreads the data in each time segment with at least one channelization code used in the TTI. A terminal receives an assignment of at least one time segment from among multiple time segments of the TTI, obtains input samples for the at least one time segment, and despreads the input samples with the at least one channelization code used in the TTI.

  • Publication number: 20070086420
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for preserving compatibility between legacy mode of operation and new mode of operation in a communication system, wherein allocation of resources is different in the legacy mode of operation and the new mode of operation is disclosed. Accordingly, an entity of a wireless access network, e.g., a base station, transmits signals comprising information about reallocation of resources from a legacy mode of operation to a new mode of operation. These signals are received at another entity of a wireless access network, e.g., a subscriber station, which then controls use by the subscriber station of resources allocated to the subscriber station in accordance with the information.

  • Publication number: 20060209749
Abstract: Techniques for transmitting data with dynamic space-time coding are described. Dynamic space-time coding refers to the mapping of data across both space and time dimensions based on a mapping scheme that changes in a dynamic manner, e.g., a time-variant manner. A transmitter generates at least one data stream and performs space-time coding on the at least one data stream in a dynamic manner to generate at least two output streams for transmission from at least two antennas. The space-time coding may be performed in various manners. For example, each data stream may be space-time coded based on a respective set of space-time codes, e.g., by cycling through the space-time codes in the code set or by using a space-time code selected based on feedback from a receiver. The code set for each data stream may also be selected from among multiple code sets available for the data stream.

  • Patent number: 7085317
Abstract: In a communication system, a method for estimating a transmitted signal is disclosed. A communication signal is received. A delay-power analyzer analyzes the communication signal. A delay spread is then estimated from information obtained from the delay-power analyzer. A new equalizer filter length is determined based on the estimated delay spread. An equalizer is configured to use the new equalizer filter length.
