  • Patent number: 5172294
Abstract: A protection switch with sudden switching on and off, a trip-free release and forced opening is described. A manually movable actuator (10) forms with a U-clip (50) a toggle lever. One leg (51) of the U-clip (50) forming the toggle joint axis is displaceably guided in the actuator (10) in a link (15) with a variable spacing from its rotation axis (11) and against the action of a spring (14) supported on the actuator (10). The other leg (52) of the U-clip (50) is guided in a fixed link (25) and in a ratchet lever (40). The ratchet lever (40) serves to transfer movement to a contact arrangement (21, 22) and cooperates with the release ratchet (60) of an overcurrent and/or undervoltage monitoring device. The fixed link (25) controls the engaging movement of the ratchet lever (40).

  • Patent number: 4258349
Abstract: A double-pole rocker switch with thermal overload protection is constructed as a fully functional sub-assembly which may be tested and adjusted prior to insertion in a tubular housing. The sub-assembly is held in the housing by releasable locks for subsequent servicing. All component elements of the switch are carried on the sub-assembly, including all electrical contacts. In particular, the sub-assembly has a base in which two pairs of electrical contacts are fixedly disposed, each pair being contacted by a spring-loaded contact bridge in one position of the rocker. This position can be attained, however, only if a movable contact block is held at one end by a fulcrum provided by a latch. The latch pivots in a V-shaped groove and may be removed from engagement with the contact block by a bimetallic strip under conditions of overload. In that condition, even deliberate actuation of the rocker cannot result in a closure of the switch because of the absence of the fulcrum.

  • Patent number: 4206430
Abstract: A bipolar protective switch has a two-piece housing. An electromagnet constitutes the actuating device made either in the form of a zero voltage actuator or an excess current actuator. The armature of the electromagnet drops in the event of a voltage failure or is attracted if an excess current appears, thus disconnecting the switch. The switch can be turned back on again only after the voltage returns or normal current returns by the actuating device. A rocker is disposed on the narrow upper surface between the two pieces of the housing as the actuating member. The electromagnet and connecting members are disposed on the underside of the housing, a portion of the electromagnet being located between the two pieces of the housing. A support of an insulating material, is disposed in the housing upon which support connecting members are disposed.

  • Patent number: 4091351
Abstract: A pushbutton-operated circuit breaker has a thermal release and an independent trip which can be mannually operated to trip the circuit breaker from the "on" position to the "off" position by depressing the pushbutton. A slide is provided within the switch which, when contacted by the pushbutton, forces a bimetallic spring to bend and release the switch. The slide is movable within the switch such that it is outside of the path of movement of the pushbutton when the circuit breaker is being switched from the "off" to the "on" position, but is engageable by the pushbutton when in the "on" position.
