  • Patent number: 6432152
Abstract: An arrangement for cooling the engine of a harvesting vehicle includes a circular sieve or screen mounted for rotation about a fore-and-aft axis and through which air is drawn by a fan which discharges the air through a cooling device. A cleaner in the form of a brush includes a cylindrical bristle arrangement mounted for rotating about an axis arranged parallel to an inlet side of the sieve with the bristles projecting through sieve openings. Located on the outlet side of the sieve is a suction device that acts to carry away contaminants poked through the sieve by the bristles of the brush. A further embodiment of the invention includes a second suction device mounted adjacent the inlet side of the sieve in trailing relationship to the brush arrangement so as to be able to carry away contaminants loosened by the brush arrangement but still clinging to the inlet side of the sieve.

  • Patent number: 4813348
Abstract: A baling machine for forming large cylindrical bales of hay has a variable volume bailing chamber defined by moving belts with a crop inlet on the underside of the machine. When a bale has been completed it is wrapped with net stored in a holder on the back of the baler. The net is advanced by feed rolls through a cutting mechanism below the holder, and is then guided by a plate extending along the underside of a run of the belts to the baling chamber. The plate is in such close proximity to the run that the net is gripped between the plate and belts and is advanced by the moving belts. Finally, the net is cut by the cutting mechanism, the wrapping of net completed, and the bale discharged rearwardly through a gate onto the ground.

  • Patent number: 4779526
Abstract: A baling machine for forming large cylindrical bales of hay has a variable volume baling chamber defined by moving belts with a crop inlet on the underside of the machine. When a bale has been completed it is wrapped with surface wrapping material stored in a holder on the back of the baler. The wrapping material is advanced by feed rolls through a cutting mechanism below the holder, and is thus guided by a plate extending along the underside of a run of the belts to the baling chamber. In order to avoid wasting wrap, a cutter is triggered by a peg carried by a metering wheel movable between an adjustable "home" position against an abutment or stop to a trigger position in which it engages and lifts a release lever to release the cutter, and this distance is a measure of the length of wrap material required for the completed bale. In respective embodiments, the metering wheel is in the form of a friction wheel, a worm wheel and a ratchet wheel with all wheels being selectively driven by one of the feed rolls.

  • Patent number: 4759279
Abstract: A machine for forming large cylindrical bales of hay with a soft core and dense outer layers has a baling chamber which is defined by an arcuate array of fixed-position rolls, and by belts which are movable outwardly to accommodate a bale as it grows in size. The baling chamber is fed from the underside of the machine through a throat between the belts and rolls. The belts are trained over a single belt take-up roll on a pivoted arm which is loaded by a piston and cylinder unit to maintain belt tension. The belt take-up roll is located well outside the baling chamber to reduce the likelihood of being fouled by crop.

  • Patent number: 4697402
Abstract: A drive roll drive of a wrap material feed mechanism is driven at a peripheral speed a desired percentage slower than the peripheral speed of a bale being wrapped whereby the drive rolls function also in the manner of a drag brake so that the wrap material is applied under tension to the bale being wrapped. A spreader roll is located between a supply roll of wrap material and one of the drive rolls and is so positioned relative thereto that the wrap material engages a substantial portion of the perimeter of the drive roll, such engagement diminishing the tendency of the tensioned wrap material to slip through the drive rolls. In an alternate embodiment, a wrap material monitoring device in the form of a spreader roll rotation sensing device is provided for signalling an operator both of the depletion of the supply of wrap material and of the unwanted dispensing of wrap material.

  • Patent number: 4691503
Abstract: A mechanism for enveloping a large round bale with a wrap material such as plastic sheet or net includes a housing for holding a supply roll of such material. The mechanism is mounted to the rear of a bale discharge gate. The housing is substantially enclosed except for an open front which is closed by a panel carried by the gate. The housing is vertically pivotally mounted for swinging away from the gate to a lowered position disposing its open front so that it faces rearwardly for reception of a supply roll of wrap material. A spring-loaded U-shaped structure is provided on the housing for biasing the material toward a lower front corner defined at the juncture of a plane containing a bottom wall of the housing and the panel.
