  • Patent number: 8361120
Abstract: The present invention relates to an outrigger for securing a longitudinal spinal rod, preferably a horizontally offset spinal rod, with respect to a bone anchor. The outrigger may include a housing having a first throughbore to receive the bone anchor and a second throughbore to receive the spinal rod, a cam for surrounding the bone anchor, the cam being disposed within the first throughbore, and a collet having a passage for surrounding the spinal rod, the collet being disposed within the second throughbore. The cam may be moveable from a first position to a second position such that, in the first position, the spinal rod and bone anchor are free to move with respect to the housing and in the second position, the spinal rod and collet are secured with respect to the housing.

  • Patent number: 8323293
Abstract: The present invention relates to a surgical method or procedure for securing a prosthesis to bone. More particularly, the present invention relates to (i) a surgical method or procedure for securing a low load bearing prosthesis such as, for example, an adhesion barrier, to a patient's bone, (ii) a tack or drive screw for securing the low load bearing prosthesis and (iii) associated instrumentation for driving the tack or drive screw into the patient's bone.

  • Publication number: 20120277796
Abstract: An expandable interspinous process spacer implant for insertion and/or implantation between a spinous process of a superior vertebral body and a spinous process of an inferior vertebral body, the implant comprising multiple pairs of legs joined in a scissor-like fashion and pivotally coupled to each other by one or more pins, where each leg has multiple slots along its longitudinal axis. The implant further may include a pair of bearing surfaces coupled between the legs via cross pins and a first plate and second plate each of which is coupled to a pair of roller pins disposed between a pair of slots on the legs where rotation of a fastener in the fastener holes of the first and second plate results in the first plate and the second plate being drawn toward each other causing the expansion of the height of the implant.

  • Publication number: 20120089185
Abstract: An expandable interspinous spacer implant that is configured to be inserted into an interspinous space that is defined between a spinous process of a superior vertebral body and a spinous process of an inferior vertebral body is provided. The implant may include a superior housing, an inferior housing, and a distracting member. The superior housing may have an outer surface that is configured to engage the spinous process of the superior vertebral body and the inferior housing may have an outer surface that is configured to engage the spinous process of the inferior vertebral body. The distracting member may be disposed between the superior and inferior housings, such that activation of the distracting member distracts the superior and inferior housings apart from each other.

  • Publication number: 20100268279
Abstract: The present invention relates to a clamp, and, more particularly, to a clamp for securing the position of a bone anchor with respect to a longitudinal rod, preferably for use in the spine. The clamp may include a housing, a rod clamping assembly, and a bone anchor clamping assembly. The clamp preferably enables the longitudinal axis of the rod to be offset or laterally displaced from the longitudinal axis of the bone anchor. The rod clamping assembly and the bone anchor clamping assembly are preferably moveably coupled to the housing in order to provide increased flexibility to better accommodate the location and geometry of the longitudinal rod and to better accommodate bone positioning.

  • Publication number: 20100217333
Abstract: A threaded bone anchor includes a plurality of recesses formed lengthwise along an exterior cylindrical surface for engagement with a driver instrument through which a user applies clockwise or counterclockwise torque for the insertion or removal of the bone anchor into and from bone. The bone anchor includes a cross-sectional geometry that minimizes the anchor's outer diameter, survives high insertion/removal torque without compromising the anchor's bending/shear strength, and allows a mating clamp to be attached to the entire non-threaded surface, including the recessed portion.
