  • Patent number: 10428761
Abstract: A galleryless piston having a reduced temperature during operation in an engine is provided. The piston includes an upper wall with an exposed undercrown surface. A ring belt and pin bosses depend from the upper wall, and a pair of skirt panels depend from the ring belt and are coupled to the pin bosses by struts. The piston includes an inner undercrown region and outer pockets extending along the undercrown surface. The inner undercrown region is surrounded by the skirt panels, the struts, and the pin bosses. Each outer pocket is surrounded by one of the pin bosses, a portion of the ring belt, and the struts adjacent the one pin boss. A plurality of holes extend through the pin bosses and/or the struts from the inner undercrown region to one of the outer pockets to convey cooling oil from the inner undercrown region to the outer pockets.

  • Patent number: 6227908
Abstract: Electrical interconnection arrangements are provided for connecting together two pieces of electrical equipment. A first connection component includes a first elongate conductive member, which in use is at a relatively high voltage, enclosed within insulating material. A portion of the first conductive member protrudes at one end beyond an end surface of the insulating material. The other end of the first member is arranged for electrical connection with one of the pieces of electrical equipment. One end of the first conductive member has an enlarged radiussed region within the insulating material adjacent the protruding portion to provide electrical stress relief at the exposed surface of the insulating material. A second connection component includes a second elongate conductive member enclosed within insulating material which has a socket exposed at an end surface thereof for receiving the protruding end of the first conductive member.

  • Patent number: 6152017
Abstract: A piston (10) comprises a piston shaft (16) and an essentially cylindrical upper region (14). The piston shaft (16) essentially comprises two opposite shaft wall portions (16) relative to the pin axis. Two pin hubs (24) are also set back relative to the piston axis in the direction of the diameter of the piston shaft (16). On the piston are formed two communicating walls (18) which connect the shaft wall portions (16), which are also set back, which extend as far as the lower edge of the essentially cylindrical region (14) and in which the pin hubs (24) are located. According to the invention, the shaft wall portions (16) are provided in a largely concurrent manner with a dimension in the circumferential direction, this dimension varying in the direction of the piston axis. The communicating walls (18) also follow the thereby determined course of the edges of the two shaft wall portions (16), with these edges extending in the direction of the piston axis.

  • Patent number: 5299490
Abstract: The invention relates to a piston, particularly of light metal, for internal combustion engines, comprising a piston skirt substantially closed in the peripheral direction, pin bosses set back with respect to the piston skirt diameter in the direction of the piston axis, and two supporting skirt wall sections which thus remain on the piston skirt on the thrust and the counter-thrust side. The supporting skirt wall section on the thrust side is larger at least in the peripheral direction of the skirt than the supporting skirt wall section on the counter-thrust side.In order to divert the lateral forces acting on the supporting surfaces to the entire supporting structure in an elastically cushioned but safe manner, the two wall sections of the skirt connecting the supporting wall sections are respectively continuously curved convexly outwards as seen along the periphery of the piston skirt at least at the open skirt end beneath the pin bosses.

  • Patent number: 4769207
Abstract: A disassembleable and reassembleable sealing device for pipelines, includes a cylindrical sealing insert being insertable into a pipeline in a given direction, the sealing insert having a front cup part with a closed cross section and a rear ring part, as seen in the given insertion direction, the cup and ring parts being annular, coaxial and slideable into each other in axial direction of the sealing insert, the cup and ring parts having corresponding peripheral surfaces and ring shoulder surfaces at the outer periphery of the cup and ring parts defining at least one ring seat, at least one sealing ring inserted into the ring seat between the cup and ring parts, the sealing ring being bulged outward by deformation forces exerted on the sealing ring by the ring seat when the cup and ring parts slide toward each other, increasing the diameter of the sealing ring for pressing the sealing ring against the ring seat and forming a ring bead on the sealing ring resting against the inner periphery of the pipeline fo
