  • Patent number: 8757534
Abstract: A reel changer of a printing press has a securing assembly for a safety area. The safety area extends on a receiving end or on a dispensing side of the reel changer at least over the entire width to the end-face side frames. These side frames comprise vertically supported frame parts and optionally also include switch boxes end or side boxes that are arranged directly on the side frames. The safety area is substantially completely enclosed by the reel changer and by one or more connected units and or mechanical blocking devices and by one or more sensor-monitored access assemblies in such a way that operators can enter during operation only by the use of the one or more monitored access assemblies. A control element for controlling functions of the reel changer is physically separate from the reel changer and is arranged at a distance from the side frames at a location that can be reached by an operator positioned outside the safety area.

  • Patent number: 8339260
Abstract: A hazardous area in the region surrounding a reel transport of a reel changer is secured. A contactless protective device is located at the access boundaries of the region. This protective device can be deactivated for feeding and/or removing a known object and comprises an evaluation unit. The protective device is configured as a light curtain that is comprised of a plurality of light beams that run in parallel to each other. The evaluation unit includes an assembly for detecting the sequence of the interruption of the light beams during the feeding and/or the removal of an object. Based on the detected sequence of interruption of the light beams, a known object, that is permitted to access the hazardous area, is detected. The protective device is deactivated in this situation. Securing the hazardous area further includes the provision of a second contactless protective device that is permanently active.

  • Patent number: 8219235
Abstract: Rolls of prepared, and of unprepared materials, for use in a web-processing machine, are stored in a warehouse. Information that is used to anticipate consumption data for an impending production period, or anticipated consumption data, is supplied to a material flow system that includes implemented logic. A warehousing strategy is defined in a sub-process which uses the anticipated consumption data and a current inventory.

  • Publication number: 20120070256
Abstract: Reels of material are transported by being disposed on a first transport carriage which is, in turn, disposed on a second transport carriage. The second transport carriage travels between a reel storage area, that has a plurality of storage spaces, and a reel changer of a web-processing machine. The second transport carriage, together with the first transport carriage and the reel of material that is deposited on the first transport carriage then travels to an offload or unload position of the reel changer.

  • Patent number: 8001899
Abstract: A printing device, which is usable to produce printed products, is supplied with a material web of a predetermined length. The length of the required web is defined by the printed product to be produced. The material web is assembled from several partial webs, having defined lengths. The supply of these partial webs to the printing device is provided automatically with the use of a material management system. A control unit of this system determines the length for the partial webs that have been chosen for a certain production request. These partial webs are sent to the printing device in a certain sequence so that the last one of these partial webs to be used has the least web length of the several partial webs. The minimum length of the last partial web is determined by an end of the partial web finishing the production. This sequence is determined, at the earliest, after the cycle time has ended.

  • Patent number: 7841557
Abstract: A roll of material is unloaded from a roll changer of a web-processing machine. The roll changer includes a first arm having a first axle journal and a second arm having a second axle journal. The roll of material is rotatably supported between these two spaced axle journals. The first arm is moved axially outwardly until the first end of the roll is stripped off the first axle journal. The second arm is then also moved axially outwardly until the roll of material is stripped off the second axle journal.

  • Patent number: 7080803
Abstract: A device that is adapted to wind a web of material includes a winding body to which a start of a material web can be connected. The material web is wound by rotation of the winding body which includes two clamping elements that can be displaced with respect to each other. A clamping gap is defined by these two clamping elements and the start of the material web can be placed in this clamping gap. These two clamping elements of the winding body are pressed against one another while clamping the start of the web. A guiding element, such as a plate is provided to guide the material web start to the clamping gap. A method for preparing a material roll is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6877438
Abstract: A device that is usable to change the direction of a transport assembly, on which feed roller may be transported, includes a lower section and an upper section. The upper section is pivotally mounted on the lower section. The transport assembly is arranged on the side or on the top of the upper section and the upper section can be pivoted by an angular amount, relative to the lower section, by use of a drive unit. A drive motor of the drive unit has its output transmitted to the upper section by a drive belt. A positive drive exists between the motor and belt and a friction drive exists between the belt and the upper section.

  • Publication number: 20030106454
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for changing the direction of means of transport (02), on which feed rollers may be transported. Said device comprises a lower section and an upper section (07) pivotably mounted on the lower section. The means of transport is arranged on the side, or top of the upper section and the upper section may be pivoted by an angular amount relative to the lower section, by means of operating a drive unit (12, 13, 14). Said drive unit comprises a drive motor, the output of which is transmitted to the upper section by means of a drive belt (17). Said drive output is transmitted from the drive motor to the drive belt by means of a positive drive and from the drive belt to the upper section by means of a friction drive.
