    Abstract: A multi-speed drive hub for bicycles includes a hub axle, an epicyclical gear unit, a drive-side coupling gear, an output-side coupling gear, first and second tooth systems, and a spring-loaded shift link. The epicyclical gear unit is mounted concentrically on the hub axle and has a ring gear, a planet-gear carrier, a plurality of double planet gears mounted rotatably on the planet-gear carrier, and two sun gears meshing with the double planet gears. The ring gear meshes with the double planet gears. The first tooth system connects the drive-side coupling gear to one of the ring gear and the planet-gear carrier. The second tooth system connects the output-side coupling gear to one of the planet-gear carrier and the ring gear. The shift link is mounted coaxially on and slidable axially of the hub axle, and has a plurality of axially spaced radial lugs provided thereon. The drive-side and output-side coupling gears are connected to the shift link to be displaced therewith along the hub axle.

    Abstract: A shifting cable assembly for the gear shift system of bicycles or the like, includes a shifting cable for connecting a manual shifter arranged in the grip zone of the bicycle user to the shift system of the rear wheel of the bicycle, a separate connection part, which is connectable to the shifting cable, being brought out from the shift point. In this shifting cable assembly there is provided a connection assembly which is designed so as to be insertable and self-retaining, on the one hand, and so as to be releasable by hand in a simple manner, on the other hand. For this purpose, there is provided a housing which is connected to the end of the shifting cable, which is taken downwards from the manual shifter, and which is equipped with a sleeve-shaped seat for the manual insertion of a connection part which is provided, for example, with detent elements and which is retained unaidedly and operationally reliably in the seat of the housing by corresponding counter detent elements.

The head of the pawl is provided with a securing surface which, even when the pawls occupy the engaged position, is situated opposite an intercepting surface of the pawl carrier, in the peripheral direction about the pivot, so that the partly cylindrical bearing foot of the pawl cannot be moved out of the partly cylindrical bearing bushing to any great extent and it is impossible for the head of the pawl to become jammed between the pawl carrier and the gear carrier.

A shifting mechanism for actuating the guide system includes a shift lever enabling shifting of the movable carrier to a plurality of shifting positions corresponding with the drive sprockets and a cam follower member including a cam follower rotatably mounted on a first part of the guide system is arranged to engage a cam member mounted on a second part of the guide system which is movable relative to the first part.

    Abstract: The braking effect of the coaster brake in a bicycle wheel hub is improved by utilizing the frictional force of the wheel hub acting on an expanding split brake sleeve for further expanding the sleeve. A lug on the brake sleeve is received in a slot of a stationary bearing cone on the wheel axle in such a manner that the circumferential frictional force transmitted by the rotating hub shell to the brake sleeve causes the latter to tilt about a pivot axis spaced from the axis of hub rotation, and a cam face on the bearing element is inclined so that a component of the frictional circumferential force drives the lug along the cam face toward the internal face of the hub shell.
