  • Publication number: 20210294297
Abstract: In a method for determining the state of wear of a tool, at least one optical image of a surface of the tool is recorded. Image data of the at least one optical image are processed in order to detect a wear zone. A surface extent and/or spatial extent of the wear zone is determined. The state of wear of the tool is classified on the basis of the extent determined. An apparatus for determining the state of wear of a tool correspondingly comprises a camera for recording at least one optical image of a surface of the tool, an image processing module which is configured in such a way that it processes image data of the at least one optical image in order to detect a wear zone, a computation module which is configured in such a way that it determines a surface extent and/or spatial extent of the wear zone, and a classifier module which is configured in such a way that it classifies the state of wear of the tool on the basis of the extent determined.

  • Patent number: 8007209
Abstract: A milling tool for the processing of workpieces by cutting is provided with multiple cutting flanks (3) and flutes (4) arranged in between these. The cutting flanks (3) have cutting edges (6) along the cutting side (5) of which bezels (10) are provided. At least one bezel (10) extending along a cutting edge (6) has an effective cutting angle (y2) that differs from the effective cutting angles (y2?, y2?, . . . ) of the bezels (10) extending along the further cutting edges (6). This asymmetric arrangement of the bezels (10) in a tool results in a calmer running of the tool which impacts the surface quality of the processed surface and results in a better serviceable life of the tool.

  • Patent number: 7771141
Abstract: A milling tool for roughing workpieces is provided with a plurality of cutting flanks and flutes disposed in between. The cutting flanks are provided on the cutting side with a predetermined rake angle, and the cutting edges have moreover a profile of wave form that extends over the width of the cutting flanks. The profile of wave form is provided with a bevel having a width corresponding to at least the height of the crest, and having a wedge angle that is more obtuse than the wedge angle of the milling tool. When the tool is subjected to heavy operational demands, a chipping or breaking off of the crest edges is thereby prevented, thus increasing the service life of the tool.

  • Publication number: 20080171154
Abstract: A method of treatment and processing of tools for machining of workpieces by cutting is described, in particular milling tools. These tools are made up of a high-strength steel, carbide or ceramic, and are provided with at least one cutting flank and a flute, which cutting flank is provided with a cutting edge on the cutting side. In a coating installation, the tool is provided with a first coating which is wear-resistant against abrasion. Afterwards a bevel is ground on each of the cutting edges. A second coating, which is resistant to crater wear, is applied to the ground bevel in a coating installation. Tools are thereby obtained that are characterized by high abrasion resistance and high resistance to wear and tear, in particular during machining of difficult materials at high cutting speed.
